My nomination for Shot Of The Year (2023).
This 4 railer by Alcaide to corner pocket in 3rd set mixed doubles vs Puerto Rico

I am sure there are many great shots this year but like many pool folks, I suffer from recency bias

i think every pool player knows that shot, but to play it in a pressure situation (rather than choosing the chicken route) is a different story. well played by david

didnt seem like a pressure environment more of a fun thing , and more likely to make it when not under pressure i feel

Great shot. But, I also question how much pressure he was really under. I know it’s a world championship but it was also against a team that they were NEVER going to lose to and he knew that.

Tough to argue here. That was an amazing shot, and I'm hard pressed to think of a better effort in 2023.

Sigel was much closer to the object ball and had a more favorable angle for this shot. David's effort, coming eight feet from the object ball, rates much higher than that of Sigel.

As others suggest, the shot may fail to qualify as a classic as the size of the moment wasn't big, but what a shot!

reviewing the shot again i give less credit to david's courage. the thin on the right side safety is actually no fun with that kind of distance and at that angle. that cloth is lightning fast too so dollying up the 10 by the left corner pocket would be a probable outcome.

thats how it is when you play someone you have no fear of
free stroking and making everything lol

I give him credit for the balls it took to risk his teammates' money on a low percentage shot.
As far as your point, I agree totally. The long distance thin safeties have been replaced with banks in my game.
My eyes aren't the best and I hate to air mail bih to my opponent when I miss the edge.

I just saw another Melling magic shot yesterday, he ended up snookering himself, then dug out from behind a ball with a 3 rail kick on the 8-ball for the win.
***edit, found it ***

I can watch him shoot all day. He always comes up with something spectacular.
