Shotmaker.

I heard this term when I first started playing.
Other players would call a guy a "Shotmaker".
My mentor was one, and I've since graduated myself from "Shotmaker U."😂
What would you guys say to a tournament or exhibition challenge for "Shotmakers??" A series of nothing but difficult shots??
Say 20 or so??
Each increasing in difficulty from 1 to 10 or whatever
Score by attempts vs made or number made, or however you want to keep score. Limit of 2 tries per shot. You either go big or go home.
Charge entry fees.
All these numbers are thrown out there off top of my head. Ideas??
Would something like this appeal to anyone?? Say as a fun last day filler for a tournament??
Let me hear what you think AZ!! Is this possible?? What would your format look like and is there any appeal for something like this??
I know I'd consider entering, just for bragging rights, but
I'm medicated, so...😂

I think it would be a good challenge for many people with long cut shots & bank shots , no jump cues allowed ha ha
With the object balls placed on the diamonds around the table 1 object ball at a time of course .

Then has a target zone to stop the cue ball in after the shot or close to it .

all the very top players are great shot makers or they would not be top players.

it really only applies to games where moving is involved like one pocket where shot making must be accompanied with good moving skills and knowledge to be a top player. or the winning player.

You used to hear the old timers use the term as a slur and it's easy for noobs to adopt that notion. Turns out as I witnessed more and more pool; big falacy. Good old Tom from the Palace said, those guys are the ones that end up as good players. Went with that.

Thank you for that!!!👍🏻
My big brother bought me that album "Up in Smoke" for my Bday back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, and comedy was vanilla, guys like Milton Behrle, Johnathon Winters, Red Skeleton, etc...(Rodney D gets a pass) Taking nothing away from those comedians, once I heard what my mom called 'gutter humor' - Gallagher, Cheech and Chong, among others, I never looked Back.👊🏻

Absolutely!!
None of this gay artistic crap. Just the type of shots you get now and then when you walk to the table after a bad roll or safety, say 'Shit' to yourself and CBs at the head rail, OBs almost froze at foot rail, 3 diamond reverse cut for the win, kinda shots!!
4 rail draw, extreme hold high banks. Draw off the rail, Table length straight ins over the pocket leather. Table length massè, center table cuts w reverse into rail downtable.
Shots like that!!
Number, order, pocket size, etc, all open for discourse.
What I had in mind was watching real Shotmakers hit the ones nobody else would even try. I'm bad like that.
But when you're on at my age, why not put on a show??
"Never met a safety I liked."

A shot maker is a shooter who both makes the shot and gets position on the next shot
OR
creates a lockup safety more than 50% of his safety attempts.
A shotmaker is a guy who creates a shot where there was none.
We see shit others don't.
I know there are still a handful of these guys left on here - AZ.
They just don't want anybody to know about it. I regularly chat w 4 of them. There are more, but fading fast. Unfortunately.

A shotmaker has a certain style of play noticeable right away if you've been around this game for awhile.
A bit more aggressive, not a safety player, per se: characters all.
Top pros today are too antiseptic for my tastes. Always play the % and safe pool. I like 9 ball without a condom, thank you very much!!
Or parachute!!🤣

I hate to be "that guy", but unfortunately I think a shotmaking contest of standard shots would become extremely boring FAST if not immidiately. Also, specialty events like this usually lead to specialization and deviate further and further from the actual game. Before you know it people are playing with those shooting glasses and giant stiff poles instead of cues or whatever other outlandish equipment may be invented. Think Earl but more extreme.

If the shots were randomly chosen it would be slightly better, but not by much.

The modern game has deviated a bit from shotmaking due to the game maturing and equipment changes that were not all for the better. It is what it is.

I don't want the game to proceed to look like that guy on the right, anymore than it allready has.
