Earl no please

Let's see how he does in Raleigh this week. I think the hiatus Earl has taken in recent months has improved his game and outlook on pool. That's the only reason I'm promoting him for the upcoming Cup. We need an Earl Strickland in the mix. He always gives 100 percent of himself in every tournament. He's not there to get screwed, get high, get drunk, go sightseeing, and entertain a family. His mission is to win for USA.
Just my opinion. :)

Jennie, I have seen him in action {EARL} when he has his meltdowns. I respect his talent, But his personality will never be good for a team. He does bring some personality to the game But is NOT the personality like your other half making people laugh. But (EARL) It is just to negative & gets the crowd going in the wrong direction. We need players like Rodney Morris, Johnny Archer Dennis Hatch or Tony Robles! many personalities that are different but still good for the team.

Yeah, right..... and you don't even realize that you just named two people that almost ended the U.S.A. ever being in the Mosconi Cup again.

That's a fair assumption. I can see how you would think that.

He's recently come back from a hiatus and is playing very strong. He won a local tournament here in Maryland, 128 players, which contained some heavy hitters in our region, i.e., Mike Davis, Shaun Wilkie, Brandon Shuff, Eddie Abraham, Ryan McCreesh, Matt Krah, Tony Long, White Max, James Aranas, et cetera. I can't remember who else was in the tournament, but there were some strong local players in it to win it.

The current Don Coates Memorial Tournament, which is in progress at the time of this writing, Earl is putting on a show and everybody is remarking about how strong his game is.

Just putting out the facts, though I do appreciate you sharing your thoughts, rationale, and opinion.:)

JAM, I agree with your post. All facts, no doubt.

Earl can play very strong as an individual.
However, the OP question addresses Earl fitting well on the Mosconi Cup.

My answer is a resounding NO!

He's not fit to be on the team.
His behavior is embarrassing, and I see it only getting worse as he gets older.
I can't pinpoint quite yet, but as he gets older he seems to be grouchier when the time permits (things don't go his way).

No, Earl should stay as far away from the Mosconi Cup team as possible.
We gave him another chance and he unequivocally BLEW IT!

Earl

Don't we go through this every few years. I was for it last time and he acted like a total arse. I would never let him play on a team I coached again. He can't handle those type of environments....

I like Earl, I think he been one of the best things for pool since the color of money. But I think the Cup team needs to be made up of the younger guys. I feel that Earl would have been one hell of a captain, its also my opinion that they should expand the teams some, make it more like the PGA's Ryder Cup, put 10 guys on the team, rotate the captain, but that would involve a solid organization dedicated to growing pool, not Matchroom who is solely in the entertainment business. This last weekend I was in Sacramento, it was nice seeing guys like Hunter and Corey try to grind out points. SVB and Billy T were there as well, thought Billy could have finished higher in the 9 ball, but he may have been distracted by a 1-pocket matchup. Talking to a few players while eating lunch on Saturday, the consensus is that the team is already chosen, the points are just for entertainment value. Earl's has had his glory with the Cup teams, time for the young guys to step up.

Earl has the best record of the USA team.....
14-11 singles
23-10 doubles
1-1 trebles
3-1 teams

64% or 61% depending which way you look at it.

info from AtLarge....who else? :)

Earl playing in the MD state 10 ball a couple of weeks ago he started to come unhinged playing Mike Davis ,, got Mike so pissed off he had to get up out of his Chair as to say keep it up and I'm going to pile drive you into the ground,, I've known Mike close to 20 yrs and never seen him pissed off like he was , Earl had called him out on a infraction for touching the one ball and the cue ball on the line on the break but then accused him of sharking him lol Mike Davis mr ediquite
Now if I'm looking at it for pure entertainment value and not for the win I'd love to see Earl in the pit might get another cuetec moment, but to win the thing I wouldn't have him on the team

If Hatch will listen to Johann, he could become the animal USA needs . Johann sees this , and will pick him . I hope it goes hill, hill, and the Mosconi Cup goes on.

I worry that he won't be able to keep his composure, but he can still play at a very high level. It also matters that the USA doesn't have a lot of great options. I think I would take a gamble on this team: Svb, Morris, Earl, Bergman and woodward

I've always felt that there should be seven players on each team....
....so the captain and coach has the ability to bench a player.

Ya as long as your not gambling on a win they would have zero shot at winning

They would certainly be underdogs, but they would have a chance- perhaps 20-30%

The problem is that I can't think of much better team of players from the USA to send.

Is Josh Roberts no longer a hot property?
He was being highly touted for the team a few months ago.
