Should GW% carry over through rounds?

I was checking into things and some of the players that did better in their second round groups then others in that same group are going to lose based on the GW% carrying over. This is a little suspect as a system since the GW% coming from the first round is based on matches with different players and as such is not really a decent comparison of those 2 players and how well they are playing. Then again the good of that system is it keeps people trying even after they have cinched a spot into the next round and rewards the previous rounds and lessens the chance of one slightly bad round of dropping a player who is otherwise dominating up to that point. Arguements for both sides.

Yes.

The reason the IPT wants game winning percentages to carry over is because they want to make every single game meaningful. They also don't want players throwing games to help other players.

Having said that, I do agree that it is sometimes unfair as some players have to fight their way through a lot tougher groups than other players.

The original reason for the carryover was so there was no worthless matches. I believe that has been fixed by the sliding scale payouts. So no there is no reason to carry over the match % anymore.

Every game will still be very meaningful since it counts toward the years GW%.

Having it carry over to another round is totally wrong in my mind since it should be how you played in that round, your trying to see who should advance from that particular group. You could have had a really tough group draw the first round and another player in your round could have had an easy draw, whats most important is how you do against the current players your playing.

Hopefully it will be changed next season.

Well stated.

I also think that head-to-head performance within the group should be the first tie-breaker, for the reason that you mention.

George Breedlove was eliminated from both the Vegas and the Reno tournaments in the second round - winning 3 games, tieing with 2 other players that he beat in the round, and having both of those other players advance instead of him (small diff in winning percentage) - ouch.
