Should high woman be paid ?

Could this practice be any more sexist ? If the TD wants more female players, why not give them reduced entry fees (or perhaps free entry) instead of paying high woman, and then make them really earn their prize money ? That is still sexist, but not as bad. And does a woman have the right to accept a high woman prize and then cry sexism about something else in her life ? I don't think so.

I don't believe it should exist, but I'm not going to get all butthurt over it, either.....

I was actually very suprised the first time I read about this practice.

Around here we have no problem getting women players to enter tournaments and I've never heard of a "top woman" prize.

I think having a high woman prize is as usefull as having a high red headed stepchild prize.

Wouldn't reduced or free entry fees be just as sexist?

Why not pay out for nicest rack, too? :p

Seriously, I don't see a problem. If a TD thinks that will help bring women into the event, then that's good enough for me. Larger events usually have a female division, anyway, don't they?

Personally I think women should be paid them same as men regardless of whether they are high or sober.

I mean, I'm not saying I get high or anything, but if I did, and I still won the tournament, I think I should be paid double for being able to shoot while impaired. Same goes for women!!!

I think that a reduced or free entry would bring more women into an event, though it is still technically sexist. I can actually understand the desire to get more female participation, but I doubt that paying top woman achieves the goal. And I think it would much more fair if a woman's ability to earn prize money depended upon her skill rather than her gender.

That's nothing. In 1999, I played a military tournament in Mannheim, Germany, race to 5 nine ball. ALL men had to spot ALL women two games on the wire to 5.

!!!!

To make it worse, we didn't have slide markers to keep track of the games, and I didn't pull coins out to keep track. I tried in my first match against a women to keep track in my head who had how many games.

I won the match 5-4, and my female opponent insisted it was 4-4. I then proceded to recount exactly how I won each game. She still denied it was 5-4, and got her boyfriend to back her up. I had no spectators to back me up.

Of course, I got pissed, said "whatever", played her another game in which I did not focus, and lost. She wasn't even all that great a player.

I then tore through the field to the finals... Only to play the USAEUR (US Army Europe) Women's 9 Ball Champion. Spotting her two games on the wire each set!!! Going to 5!!

Talk about sexist.:D

Didn't matter. I shot her into a coma, she only "earned" one game in two sets, 5-3, 5-2. I was still hot from my lost, and I play much better angry.

That was the first time I ever played a tournament where every single woman in the field was spotted that way. I thought it was extremely unfair, but fortunately, I was enough of a player to overcome the spot. They awarded multiple trophies, though, and I wonder where the field would have placed if not for the unfair spot.

I agree with the reduced entry fee being a better solution, but as far as ability, I think the woman are just out-matched by the men. I don't see why that is, I would think that both sexes would be equal in billiards, but they never match up...

Do you think that the top male pros play the top female pros even??? I wish I had more information to offer, can anyone help me out here?

Only if she gets in the money, then that's the money she should get. Sorry, but this is why they have women's tours and tournaments.

Just curious, if you were spotting her two games wouldn't she have won at 5-3? Didn't know if it was a typo. :D

I think he means she only won one game in 2 sets thus making the final score 5-3 and 5-2, he is counting the spot.

Ahhh okay that makes sense. Nice shooting. :D

Did you know?

That it is illegal to show preferential treatment in any way to women. Though hardly enforced it is against the law. For instance, if you have a free ladies night(which I do) if a guy walks up and says I want to play free too, you must adhere to his request or you would be breaking the law. There are a couple of cases around that went to court over it.

I have never understood why the top female players don't do better against the top men, witness the IPT results. I love watching Allison and Karen at the top of their games, and I think ESPN has been missing a great opportunity to match either of them against some of the top men in Billie Jean King vs. Bobby Riggs fashion. The women would win some of these matches and that is something that "everybody" knows should not happen, thus generating interest and viewership. I think it would be great for the game. It would either show that the women can play as well as the men, or it would show why they don't, while at the same time being very intriguing.

Instead of reduced entry fees why not just hire Varney to do their tip work for free. I some Carter lady that wouldn't mind. :p

Yes, I didn't even think of that. There would be a great audience for those matches...maybe it's time they try this.

If that practice brings larger fields for the men's tournaments it is fine. More money to split. What a great idea......SPF=randyg

Bahh! This one is easy to solve.. Let him know that if he insists on free pool, that's cool. Let him know you'll have to announce over the PA that due to a disagreement over the fairness over the free ladies night, all ladies are now on time or paying for all their drinks. Let him know you will direct all pissed off customers, both male and female over to him to talk about it.

Then tell him, "Yeah, you're right. You have a right to be treated the same as everyone else. I have to make a living. Getting women in here for free gets men in, who pay. If you insist on pushing this, I have no choice to comply. But every boyfriend in here whose table time is gonna double from this minute forward is gonna have something to say to you about it. You still wanna push it?"

That's the way I would handle a joker like that..:D
