Should the Director(s) Have Stopped the 2018 Mosconi Cup?

I'm sorry guys, but if y'all think drunken rowdiness is exciting and a boon for modern pool, then we should all hope that this trend continues to spill over into all tournaments and league play....right???

Am I missing something here? I simply cannot imagine Earl Strickland, or Jayson Shaw, or Mike Dechaine, etc. studying the table for their next shot with a crowd of drunks in the seats whooping and hollering, hoping that they miss their next shot? Would this be good for pool and its already tarnished image?

That said, I fully understand that the MC is an event for entertainment/television ratings. Admit it or not, but it is a bastardized version of what real pool tournaments are all over the rest of the world. It's like comparing televised wrestling from the 70's with collegiate wrestling....same sport except one's a joke and the other is dead serious.

I'd rather be entertained by true "professionalism".....a sport that is played the way it was intended to be played.

JMHO.

I think you're giving drunks too much credit.

And one the participants(WWE) make a ton of money and the other they dont make s#!%..

I'm glad to see so many people "get" what MC is and it seems like only 2 that are clueless.

Here you have an event that is SOLD OUT as in people actually paid to watch, and you've got 2 guys complaining.

I would imagine it's one of if not the most watched pool event of the year and you've got a couple people that want to ruin that - you really cant make this stuff up.
Jason

You're an irritating b*****d to say the least. Excuse the hell out of me for having an opinion and expressing it here. I'll try in the future to refrain from posting things that get everyone's panties all in a wad.

And....I don't particularly "want" the MC to go away, I just simply do not care to watch it. I liken it to watching a Spring season baseball game. It can stay around forever as far as I'm concerned.

So....you CAN make this stuff up. :p

Maniac (report the post...I no longer give a sh*t)

Not sure if directed at me but I totally "get" what's going on.

Doesn't mean the next wave of aspiring pros, potential sponsors, etc. does. The prolonged lack of respect for the Ref was a mockery.

I agree with the "down on the shot" comment. Let everyone erupt afterward. Maintain some dignity...

Well then dont watch it. It's really that simple. Lol

The most successful event of the year and you guys saying it's wrong just baffles me.

Have a great day. Seriously.
Jason

I wouldn't mind if say Alex Kazak... started having a hard time or whatever or got a shot he really didn't like during his match and after studying it for a minute he walks over to the stands and tags Jason shaw; who rips off his shirt and comes charging up to the table with a f$%^inkg 2 x 4, makes the shot! and then does the hand cup around the ear.

There should be few restrictions on the crowd.

This isn't golf.

Not sure who or what or when people thought that pool players deserve absolute quiet to execute to their best. Total nonsense.

Not sure why people want to adopt the CULTURE of a different sport into pool?

What is wrong with some of you people?

Pool is one of the worst spectator sports, and many of you want to make it worse by forcing paying spectators to be silent, still and in some instances, not even be permitted to consume beverages.

Loser mentality.

The players are hypocrites too. All of them. They whine about crowd noise when they can, but then you'll see them play a tournament or gamble for big money in a pool room with a juke blasting, the public playing on nearby tables, and skimpy dressed waitresses walking by.

Good post

Silence is more of a "shark" than a jet flying over. Nobody grew up playing in a Church or a Library.

........................
Watching the pro women play this past week in the semi finals and finals, there's more crowd action in a church.

It’s not a real pool tournament to me unless there are only a few people in the audience and they’re all over 65 and dozing off.

For record, the only "culture of another sport" I'm advocating here is respect for the Officials. Unless you want to be compared to WWF. I can't think of any other sport where a FRACTION of that disregard for the Ref would be tolerated.

It's about upholding the integrity of the game. It's dignification.

If only in Boxing it would have been silent.......I could've been a contender.

Have you EVER watched professional sports???
Jason

Please give me an example in professional sports where the ref is completely disregarded/disrespected and there are no consequences. I'll wait...

Very few spectators get kicked out of events. EVERY event has fans screaming at the Refs, thats why I asked if you've ever watched Pro sports before.

Typical fans screaming from the bleechers during a game isnt the same thing as fans continuing behavor they've been asked (warned) to stop.

Consecuences range from their removal to penalties for the home team and everything in between.
