Should the IPT transfer to Manila?

Given the just concluded successful staging of the WPC in Manila, wouldn't it be a good idea for KT to hold the next IPT tournaments in Manila and the rest of Asia?

Venue rentals and labor costs are cheaper, plus there is already a built-in die-hard pool audience who'd be willing to pay good money to watch world-class pool. And as Jay Helfert has observed, camera crew, production and broadcast staff are talented and just as good as any out there right now.

Plus, the players would also benefit from reduced food and accomodation costs and possibly added income because of all the money games available 24/7 in the many pool halls around Manila. They could also learn a little bit about how filipinos play and incorporate that in their game.

KT could also cut a deal with Mr. Puyat by offering him broadcasting rights that would partly go to paying off Mr. Puyat's stable of players that KT owes bigtime.

He would just have to be careful though, and see to it that he does as he says. People are known to just mysteriously disappear in the Philippines... ;)

I sure hope he pays up before he goes. He should also take friends.

Really ...

I think an event in Taiwan would be better. Filapinos are more able to travel than Taiwanese, and the participation rate would be better there, if that is what you were aiming for. Actually an event in each country probably would be good.

But, I do not think that American players would travel near as much as the European players seem to for an event in another country because of the expense involved.

Yes, about someone disappearing reminds me of when I was in the Navy at Subic Bay (Olongapo) during the Nam War, and they found a guy dead off a ship we were cruising with in Sh*t river with his penis and balls cut off, and sewn to the inside of his mouth. He got caught 'butterflying' (two timing) a girlfriend there. So, yes, you have to be careful.

Thinking in terms of a hypothetical scenario involving a successful and solvent organisation running several future events the American participation factor may not matter quite as much to the event operators as it has done to date.

There are many fine pool players who are American.....but the results of the IPT tournaments which were completed and the results of the latest World 9 Ball's hint that if the IPT or any other truly global "international" pool tour were to run for a few seasons to enable the cream to rise to the top,the percentage of Americans within the total of players who earned and maintained the right to a tour card would be significantly smaller than it has been up to now.

Taking another hypothetical and totally cold-hearted line it would also be the case that if any Americans did not wish to travel to any event there would be thousands ready to take their place in any case.

Someone else maybe, but definitely not Trudough. He would not be welcome in the Philipines. He has already insulted one of their icons.
