Should there be an INSTRUCTION SECTION?

Do we need a separate section for instruction?

I also like the idea of having a Instruction forum, with sub-forums for each of the major pool games. This way a library of threads with questions and answers can be grouped together with the associated pool game.

I just took a look at the Straight Pool forum. It's a gold mine that I haven't really tapped into before. In the threads I looked at, the answers are very informative and the posters are staying focused on the questions being asked.

I'd also like to see the more knowledgeable players and instructors take the lead in answering questions about specific shots and strategies. As it is, too often a thread becomes a free-for-all in which one shot can be played 10 different ways by players of various skill levels. While it may be fun to see the wide diversity in how to play a shot, I think it dilutes the instructive value as not all the answers can be correct.

too many questions, yes it is possible

I remember a particularly annoying girl in high school. In an advanced biology class we both had together, she asked so many damn questions that eventually the teacher had to ask her to get a grip on herself and slow it waaaaaay down. She was seriously interferring with the amount of material the teacher was able to present and slowing the entire class down!

I regularly clocked her at 20-32 questions in a 55 minute class. She'd raise her hand and say, "I have 2 questions and an analogy...". Thoughts of her mouth and a roll of duct tape filled my head on a daily basis.

There IS such a thing as too many questions.
 
There's also such a thing as too many subforums.

if there's truly a problem with one or two people asking too many questions, they can be dealt with individually by a mod. But there's no 55 minute time limit here, and in written material your eye can fast-forward over both the question and the answer more or less instantly. So I think that analogy kinda sucks.

I wouldn't mind seeing instructional stuff organized, but I don't want to make extra useless clicks just to be able to read and respond to it. We don't need 50 or 100 posters making extra clicks because a handful can't be bothered to skim over dcp's topics (which only requires moving your eyeballs for chrissakes).

Seriously guys, use the ignore feature. You'll be happier and no major forum changes need to be made. Besides, people will ignore the instructional forum and post here anyway, and instructional questions and answers is sure to accidentally bleed into posts that started out on another subject.
 
I actually don't know what I want here.

I think that 90 % of my time at the forums is in the Main Forum, 5 % in the IPT Forum and 5 % in the Straight Pool Forum.

I "never" visit the other sections, and I am afraid that I would visit the instruction-forum not to often either. And that would be a shame, because I like to read the questions that people ask, and especially all the different answers.

However, the really good thing about an Instruction Forum would be that it would be very easy to find the exact information you are looking for, instead of reading through pages of woofing ;)

Another advantage of having an Instruction Forum is that it might cut down on the repetition of people asking the same questions over and over again.

5% of your time in the IPT forum? It's like a ghost town in there. I always feel a little dirty being in that forum.

Well, one thing that might really help in any case is a search engine that works exceedingly well. It's not always that easy to find specific posts or replies.

Hehe, ok, maybe not that much these days. But I guess that almost half of my posts have been made in that Forum :)
