should we make new tournament rule/ipods?

I started reading this thread yesterday and decided to reply. I have to say that I can't believe that it reached the number of posts that it did. However I will say that playing a person who takes 45 seconds or more between every shot, is more distracting. Playing someone who rather than sitting in their seat texting or listening to their IPOD while I'm shooting is standing by the table.

I have myself adopted the practice on occasion to Text, Checking Email, or Even taking a Phone Call While I'm sitting in my chair while their at the table. I have even used my IPOD while playing, at times.

At no time have any of my actions bothered or slowed play. Now the only time I think it should be an issue for the shooter is if the in coming shooter delays the match to finish what their doing ie: Phone call, text, email not realizing it's their turn.

If there is no rule against it during a Tournament then it shouldn't be a problem.

Black Cat

from "icon of sin"....Deal with it or don't enter the tournament.
i'm an old guy so maybe you are a young guy...i learned the concept of "pure respect for others" which is lacking in our society today, if more of us adopted this we would surrely be better off.......

Well said, the level of disrespect is amazing now.

Right here!. And it pays better than pool ;)

Haha, sweet. Do they have a c division

Kerry Wood in the dugout talking on his cell.

I guess I see this sort of stuff all the time and just don't pick up on it. It's really apples and oranges though, that can't interfere in any way with the opposing team.
I guess unless if he were using it to reflect the sun or maybe call the opposing pitcher up on the mound :grin:

No1 should be playing with their ED during their turn at the table.I have sent text messages before while playing 1p but it involves punching in a few letters at a time and sending the text when it doesn't hold up the game.

IMO there should be no EDs during tourney play. There is plenty of time to check your phone between matches.

...or if the pitcher sees this out of the corner of his eye and thinks "Man! How disrespectful! There's no place for cell phones in this game! Especiallly when you're sitting in your seat while I throw a ball!"

Fortunately the dugout will never be behind home plate......

I noticed some people making the point that they need to be available in case of a emergency. I don't think anybody is going to argue that. The original point made in this topic was a player who was texting when it was there turn at the table. Obvoiusly if something really important comes up and you explain this to your opponent they will understand. If you are texting during your turn what do you expect that person to think? It is downright disrespectful.

Bottom line.... if you have an emergency politely ask your opponent if you can take a minute to make a text. Just like if you decide to use the restroom. You would most likely communicate that to the person you are playing with.

You couldn't be more wrong.

Good etiquette transcends generational divides sir. Some things are just true regardless of when they were said. I hope that at some point you realize this. Good luck to you.
Does it really "transcend generational divides"? If that were the case we wouldnt be having this conversation and there wouldnt be so many people in this thread arguing for either side.

Thank you for the good luck wishes but I think you'll need it more then me when you decide to leave you house and see what the world is really like.

Really, that's the best you got? This topic seems pretty lopsided to me and not in your favor.
As far as leaving the house to see what the world is like, no problem. If you're ever in R.I. I'll be happy to leave my house to relieve you of your cheddar. That's right, I went there. And don't worry, you'll have plenty of time for texting since you only do it when your seated in your chair.

I am not even really sure what the debate is here. If you are texting during your turn then SHAME ON YOU.

If you have a extraordinary situation then tell you opponent. I am sure he/she will understand.

If you just want to text somebody for a non-critical situation then do it on your time. Not when you are supposed to be playing.

On the other side of the coin:

If you are shooting and notice your opponent playing with his phone, that is his business and doing it on his own time. If he chooses to not pay attention to the game so be it. As long as he is at the table when its his turn it shouldn't matter.
