Shoulder Pain while playing

You most likely have what is known as an impingement syndrome. As you elevate your arm, the rotator cuff tendon becomes pinched, or "impinged", between the bone in your upper arm (humerus) and the bony part at the top of your shoulder (acromian process). This leads to rotator cuff tendinitis and shoulder bursitis.

If you can assume a position where your arm is not elevated as much, it should help. Shooting from a higher position, or flexing your elbow a bit will allow you to lessen your arm elevation relative to the shoulder joint.

Yep. This is my problem. I got cortisone shots and most of the pain went away. Still have some problems with my upper bicep. I never thought about the weight I put on my arm while shooting. I'll give that a try.

Start staying up higher.........

I have an experience I wanted to share with the crew here. When I play for an extended period of time I get pains in my upper shoulder area. It is in my left arm probably due to extending it out to bridge and keep low on the ball. Now I'm 47 years old too which doesn't help...

Has anybody else had this experience ?

I have and am.

You might even play a little better when your up higher. Being down so low isn't all it's chalked up to be.

Try it you might like it.

You'll find that you can actually aim better.

I am in an awful lot of pain as I write this. I actually had to lift my right hand with the left and place it on the keyboard in order to type this. WTF!

This just began a couple of days ago. Not sure but I think it may be due to the repeated motion of playing pool plus breaking like a berserk ninja.

It's my shooting shoulder (not my bridge) that is killing me and I cannot imagine any gel or even a shot is gonna fix this. My guess is that something is torn in there, maybe the rotator cuff. I want to be pleasantly surprised that whatever this is will not require surgery. :frown: Moving for that frown emoticon nearly sent me off my chair. Just how important was it to display that effin' "frownie"? lol (sorta)

I've taken three breaks so far typing this. There are no comfortable positions, just a little better and worse. Normally I would install some other sad kind of emoticon here but I just learned in the last paragraph it ain't worth it.

So, needless to say, I am done thinking this might go away by itself and I've already missed 41 3/4 hours of pool so I will go see a doctor today.

Will keep you all posted.

What a timely thread.

Be well fellow shoulder pain sufferers. wink, wink, smile, eek, confused...

Best,

Good luck with that, I know what it's like I have been clear for 3 years up until a couple of weeks ago and like you I have to break down and go visit the Doctor again:frown:

just back from doc with poss good news.

he said it appears to be big inflammation with poss micro tears of my bicep tendon which is straight in front of the shoulder just above the underarm crease.

he thinks with lots of tens and ice therapy, plus a sling, it should resolve in a week or two. he said that i shouldn't pick up a cue until all symptoms resolve. i don't see how picking up a cue could hurt anything... confused, frustrated, wink, piss, moan, wink, smile, smile...

That really could be good news, except the not picking up a cue, I really hope he's right, it's much better than getting a cortisone shot or surgery.

I am trying to hold out until our League Team get's a bye week, because if he gives me another shot it takes that long just to stop aching. The shot itself is not too bad but, damn, does it ache the next few days!
