Show Your Boxed Veneer Cues

Interesting that White and the Scruggs/Cochran shop don't do it the same way. Especially when I remember someone on here saying there is only one right way to do it. Which one is superior?
 
I requested of Mike Cochran to do mitered veneers, I thought they looked superior......... I looked at the Scruggs with a magnafiying glass and the veneers do not appear to be mitered

The veneers in the Scruggs cue look much better than the mitered ones. There is a huge gap in the miters and unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, they do not line up perfectly.

This is not meant to be a slam on Mike Cochran. I have tried these both ways and I know how hard it is to cut them perfect.
 
To Me The Scruggs And The Cochran Both Looked To Be Mitered, Just That The Scruggs Has Less Glue/joint Line Visible.

The Jmw From What I Remember Is A Remilled Bridged Point. (not 100% Though)
 
No comment from me either way, I really like boxed venner cues and wanted to see pics of others, besides mine.
BTW I really like Mike & Tim's work and they way their cues play. I have never played a Scruggs or Cochran I didn't like!;)

Bridged Veneers

Hers is a couple of fourarms with bridged veneers the ebony with ebony points was first attempt the cocobolo with ebony points was second attempt
they are not spoken for if any one is interested.

I LIKE THE EBONY/EBONY ONE. PM ME DETAILS, AND WHAT YOU WERE GONNA DO WITH THE REST OF THE CUE. THANKS

I agree I like the way the ebony on ebony one looks so far. Nice job!
 
I hav seen both of Phils cues

The Cochran is razor sharpeverywhere. There are no glue lines. At 3x or even greater you think you should coment about a line where a miter comes together? You can't see it with out magnification.
Tony be kind enough to show a cue of yours magnified with mitered boxed veneers. I think this request is not asking too much.

I HOPE OU UNDERSTAND I WASN'T BASHING/JUDGING THE CUES, I WAS JUST MAKING A STATEMENT. THE MITERED JOINTS IN THE SCRUGGS ARE SUPERIOR TO THE COCHRAN. THE ONE'S ON THE COCHRAN AREN'T BAD, THEY JUST AREN'T AS GOOD AS THE SCRUGGS.

I have only made two cues with bridged points and I was not happy with either one, so one ended up as firewood and the other I play with, but I will not sell it. They are not mitered. The Mitered one I tried would have had too much of a glue line, so I gave up on the bridged points and put some rings where the bridged area would go.

I also said that my comments were not a knock on the cue, but was pointing out that there was a gap there and the fact of the matter is that there is a gap there.

I have recently posted extreme close ups of all four points I have made with mitered veneers.

If you want to see some examples, just search the past couple of weeks photo's. I always post a close up of the points as I take pride in my veneer work. If there is a large gap in the point, I would not let the cue out.

Again, my previous post was not to knock the cue it was to give my opinion on the difference of the two and which I felt was better. I cannot do bridged points well enough at this point to sell them in a cue and until I can, I won't have any examples to post.
