Now that I know where to go to play on a 9 footer for the same price as a barbox, I'm so there! I never would have gone into a place like this, ever. A seedy dive next to the Deja Vu strip club? Yuck. But their tables are NICE and they have 4 of them.
That place doesn't sound so bad to me....:grin::grin:
It's just the opposite for me. I only play on 9-footers so when a new place got added to our league last session and we had to go play on an 8-footer.... wow. Major change for me. Fortunately, I only have to play there once out of a 16 week schedule, so I don't sweat it much. 9-footers the rest of the time, up to and including playoffs and states.
Glad you're having a good time. This pool thing is addictive, isn't it?
I get a lot of time on barbox tables, and on Thursdays I play a lot on 8 foot. Now that I've found cheap 9 foots....guess where I'm going to be living?
This was a much better week....even though I am still sore and tired.
BCA Monday scores (we played the top team):
Game 1: 3 balls
Game 2: Won
Game 3: 6 balls
Game 4: ZERO (derbied)
In APA last night, I did much better. They dropped me to a 2, which is making my captain very happy. I told him to give me $6 a week and I'll stay a 2. He thought that was funny, but didn't fish around in his pocket for the scratch.
I was up against a 4....so I had to win 2 games to her 4. Keep in mind this is on 9 foot tables, which I rarely play on.
First game, 5 innings, she missed a shot and I sunk the 8. First win. No slops or other APA type things, heh heh.
Second game, 2 innings, I won and she had 6 balls on the table! I had to bank shots and take hard cut shots with lots of green. Two games, bang! Done! My team went ballistic and even the other team said "Good Shootin!"
I'm stoked for the BCA Regionals in Lincoln City next month. I don't care if I come in dead last........I'm going for it.
Skiergirl, your one post is the epitomy of economy. So how you been?
Now that you're out there on the big tables I strongly urge that you learn One Pocket. You'll thank me later.
And when I say learn, I mean that even the great Scott Frost is still learning One Pocket. You just don't notice it so much.
pool rooms take in strays like pounds do. if you find a good pool room near you and hang out enough. you will be like faimly in a month. just show up,drink a beer and play

Mr. Steamer, I have played One Pocket on occassion, and the game lasts an hour!!:banghead: It's a good way to stretch 50 cents, and you're absolutely right. You learn a lot. I must remember to do the painful things more often.
Sometimes in practice, I'll find the hardest shot and do all of those. Or just bank everything. I'm slowly getting better.
I read a lot of everyone else's threads, but I don't have a lot to say since I'm such a noob.:boring2:
Okay, BCA league was fun.......we actually won 4 out of 5 matches! A first for my merry band of idiots, and I'm so proud!:grin-square:
Monday's scores:
Game 1: Won
Game 2: 4
Game 3: 7
Game 4: 6
Just out of reach on a couple of those.
Tuesday's APA league was not much fun. I went up to a 3, as expected, and that threw the team's playing field all outta whack. I was wrong: we have a 3 (me), 2 (4's), 2 (5's), and 2 (7's). Some went down. I am afraid to get any better. This really sucks.
I had to play a 2, and I had to win 3 games. Let's put it this way: there was no competition. I felt kinda bad, but it was over quickly. I just wanted her to feel good about getting a ball or two in, so she'd get the bug to keep shooting instead of giving up, so on the last game, I was trying to take every tough shot, but they went in anyway.
I had a kick shot that shocked everyone.... cue ball near the center pocket, my 3 ball frozen to the foot rail about a foot from the pocket, but I had to kick it. Her balls clustered everywhere, just enough room to slide the 3 past one of her balls down the rail to the opposite corner pocket. (I wish I knew how to make that table sketch thingy work...EDIT: not so hard after all, except my drawing is for poop!)
So I took aim, shot it across, and damned if it didn't hit the ball and rail at the same time and that 3 went purty as you please straight into the pocket. I couldn't believe it. What rotten luck! I couldn't do that again if my life were on the line.
So I'm sure I'll still be a 3 next week, but I hope they give me someone harder to shoot against.
After league was over, I shot one game with Steve (a guy on my Monday team who is a 7), and beat him. I should have started playing for money last night, I WAS ON. ha
Watch, tomorrow, I won't be able to hit a bull in the ass with a banjo. That's Pool!

feels GOOD , don't it ? Congrats to all !
but I hope they give me someone harder to shoot against.
That was my advice to you when you first discussed joining this team - spend your first few weeks playing against 5s & 6s , to get a feel for where your handicap truly is . Beating up on s/l2s is too easy , and will falsely elevate your handicap too quickly . . . if you only play s/l2s & 3s , you will rapidly have an 80-90% win ratio , which is great if you're trying to qualify for LTC , VanDamm the consequences - but you're not , your team is already qualified , and an HONEST evaluation of your skill level MUST be established before then . This CANNOT be accomplished only by beating up on lesser players - you gotta try your luck against some higher s/ls to determine where you're really at . If s/l5s consistently whup ya , you know you're not a 5 . THEN try some s/l4s , and if they beat you , you know you're an HONEST 3 .
Two s/l7s on the team , huh ? That's rough , your current hot roster is 7-5-4-4-3 . One s/l of movement anywhere on your roster , and that BOTH s/l7s are neutralized . . . ouch!
Watch, tomorrow, I won't be able to hit a bull in the ass with a banjo.
I went to Seattle this weekend just for the variety....free lodging, short 300 mile drive, WTF, why not?..... and I went looking for different places to shoot pool.
Played for about 4 hours, left at 7 pm when it got LOUD. I gotta say the MUSIC was really strange. I felt like I was at a church or funeral most of the time, but dirges never got me excited anyway. Around 6 pm the mood changed (but not the music). Drunk/loud peeps, VERY DARK CORNERS with lots of gay men getting kisses for luck, so if that gets your knickers in a twist, don't go there. It doesn't matter to me and we had a good time people watching in between shots.
After that we went to Garage, an even BETTER place, with 18 9 footers at $5 an hour, and we stayed there till almost midnight and went back the next day! http://www.garagebilliards.com/
The food was awesome and I loved the atmosphere. I'm an old poop and I like things clean and wholesome. The music was constant and a great variety from blues to reggae to pop to alternative and everything in between AND there's a bowling alley on the other side! Twofer! It's a good thing I didn't see darts or I would've lost my mind.:woot:
I drove home this afternoon and my league-mate Trish called and said, Hey, let's practice a couple hours, so I drove right to Annie's and got a couple hours in on a barbox. A good weekend, I learned a lot and got some great practice in on a large table, so tomorrow on the 7 footers should be the shit. Ahr.
Strange to be shooting on the smaller tables again.
Monday's BCA scores (I hope they are in order, games 3 and 4 might be reversed, I forgot the sheet!):
Game 1: Won
Game 2: Won
Game 3: 1 (argh)
Game 4: 4
Game 5: Won (missing a player and this was the rotate game)
Last night in APA, I played a 3, and I'm a 3. It was a race to 2. I still don't understand how you can 'race' to 2, it seems silly. Won, won, both games in a row, done, it was very short.
I'm winning more games than I used to in league play, and that's good. Time to step up the practice, learn some new things, and keep playing the tough players when I practice. :yeah:
My enthusiasm is Too High! I stayed last night till closing and played Scotch Doubles with team mates. It's hard to get anything done cuz pool is always there.
Tomorrow is pool all afternoon with a small break at 5, then pool til at least 10pm. I love it.
What's happening, Bonnie. Still doing that barbox thing, I see.
Everything's fine back here at home. Grandma's gout has been botherin' her something fierce lately. Cousin Arnold was out squirrel hunting the other day and accidentally shot himself in the groin. You remember Aunt Ada's daughter Sally Ann, don't you? She gave birth to a fourteen pound baby boy last Friday. Everyone says it looks a lot like her gym teacher, Mr. Skinner. Well, that's all the news for now. Be sure and write if you get work.
Mr. Skinner ? is her gym teacher the infamous Leonard Skinner ?
He coached some boys down here in FLA , and they turned into a bunch a crazy degenerate rock & rollers . . . .
worst part is , they'd always ask for a spot - usually three steps toward the door . . .
it's hard for me to get anything done cuz Double Scotches is always there . . . .
Well, now Tramp, funny you should mention squirrels!!
My Aunty Viola had a go round with one of them roof rats just last week when one surprised her by digging a hole right spang through the side of the outhouse wall! Damn near scared the shit outta her to see his ratty lil face peeking out just above where the Roebuck catalog was, and I've never heard a sound like that come out of anything remotely human, but lawdy lawd, was she ever hotter than a June bride on a cookstove barrelin outta that door!
Nearly kilt Uncle Lennie who was clippin his toenails on the porch steps. He's lucky he wasn't trimming his beard or he'd be talkin out his neck rights about now. He's still shakin like a dog shittin peach pits. Poor bugger.

Coffee-spitting post! :embarrassed2::grin: If my day goes like I expect it to, I'm looking for double-double scotches tonite.
"...'cuz I'm a man who cares, and this a might be all for you..."
One of the great rock songs ever. The ones who are left still tour, they even played my little corner of the world last summer. BIG crowds, by our standards. Everyone loved it.
