Sigel Billiards

sigel had one of the most unheard of records when it came to the finals of the pro tournies back in the 80's and early 90's. he won around 95% of the time when he got into the finals...and he got into ALOT of finals.

I got his autograph for free a couple times. And he was a very friendly and approachable guy (unlike some others who I won't mention). I don't think the IPT "Mike the Mouth" persona has helped his image any. He'll always be "Captain Hook" to me.

If Mike was on one of the pool school tours and came through town I would be the first in line. I heard he worked with Dennis Hatch when he was young and it didn't seem to hurt his game any.

a little more hot air! :D

Nice post Rubyron.

I too have heard what Sherm stated about him charging for autographs, but I can echo much of Rubyron's post. When I first met him, he signed a photo for me and chatted for a while. His ex-wife Renee took a picture of us for me and then the next year, I asked if he would sign his pic and he did. None of this cost me a penney.

And I also prefer "Captain Hook" to "Mike the Mouth", which I think was something coined by KT to help promote Sigel. Much the way a "villan" in the WWF / WWE is "promoted". Sigel is not a bad guy at all. He sometimes seems a little nervous and that sometimes shows in his mannerisms. He's chatty by nature and he really and truely is one of the greatest cueists of all time!

I would LOVE to see him compete again full time.

Here's a neat article on Sigel.....

Sigel

Yeah... Mr. Finals! Captain Hook! Remember Accu-stats Magazine? I used to follow and worship him when I was about 13 years old in 82. When I first saw him play was in Greensboro (In Person), I would just watch him practice... he was a real BEAUTY TO THE GAME and a role model for me as a young kid! I thought... Man, This guy has perfect form and shoots lights out! He looks up and says to me Am I playing OK? I did not no what to say!!! Those are good memories for me!!!, Everyone was there and my pool mentor drove me to this tourney ( He's to blame for my pool addiction, LOL). Danny Diliberto tells me alot of stories, and Danny says he was probably one of the best... But quit to soon! I respect the word of MR. Diliberto! Long Live Captain Hook! I will be the first in line for anything he is promoting!!! WOW... What A Great Player!!!

Agreed, "Mike the Mouth" was a terrible name. Probably the only thing holding him back from competing well would be desire.

On the other hand I would like him to stay retired to preserve the memory Michael Jordan's comeback was terrible.

Sigel's fees

Hi All, Mike's fees vary depending on the # of hours and how many people for the group lessons. One on one lessons also vary the best thing to do is email him through his website www.sigelbilliards.com
For those of you not sure about who makes his cues, HE DOES. I personally spent many many hours and years in the shop with him! And he had the upmost pride in his cues! In which he should! He also has an import line he designed and are built to his specs. The difference is there is an S logo on the butt of the cue and his signature on the front of the imports. His custom cues are only signed , no logo. You can find his store on ebay. I would suggest if you have a pool room you play out of talk with the owner about having Mike come in for an exibition and have group lessons as well. Thanks Jam for putting Mike's info out here on AZ!
Your always the postive one who tries an help the players and you've always given them the respect they all deserve! Best to you as well!
