The greatest living pool player in the world, as named in 2000 by Billiard Digest, will host an exhibition at the oldest running billiard hall in the Rochester area.
Former Irondequoit resident Mike Sigel will visit East Ridge Billiards for a 7 p.m. appearance at East Ridge Billiards, 529 E. Ridge Road.
The business, which opened in 1960, now has a new owner.
Brighton High graduate and Irondequoit resident Christopher Braiman took over the business back in October, repairing each of its 22 tables, updating the decor and adding new a menu and additional leagues.
During his professional career, Sigel won 107 professional tournaments, including 6 U.S. Opens and 10 World Championships. He was named player of the year four times, and in 1987 — when he was just 35 — was inducted into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame.
He excelled at both 8-ball and straight pool, but his best game may have been 9-ball. That was the game featured in the 1986 film The Color of Money, for which Sigel served as the technical adviser and pool instructor. He worked with stars Paul Newman and Tom Cruise, teaching them some of the shots and performing the rest of them himself.
Sigel retired from full-time play in 1994, producing a series of instructional DVDs and launching his own line of pool cues. He lives in Florida but still visits the Rochester area.

Sigel's trademark photo is the bent-cue break shot. :grin-square:
