Sigel V. Jones for $100,000- IPT Tour?

Allison has played in a SE Open tour event (she beat Tommy Kennedy twice and won it) and also an invitational men's event for Matchroom Sports (think she lost in the first round).

I know one of those champions has got to be Nick Varner. Nick and Mike are good friends...I don't think ES would turn it down. AF, well she is still taking down tourny after tourny, no need to go on a losing streak, besides, I don't think AF has ever played against the men players or has any desire too.

Allison did a promo tour with Grady about 6 or 7 years ago where they played each other at about a dozen spots around the country. I saw the show at Snookers in Cincinnati.

I'm glad to see someone throwing some decent money at pool, I just wish they'd be realistic about it. This match up is a pharse! Sigel doesn't deserve it and LJJ couldn't win with the 7 and the breaks!

If they want a battle of the sexes, let Allison or Karen play Grady or Danny Diliberbo. These ladies have a chance and these men actually still play and deserve the chance at the "big bucks"!

just more hot air!!

Players Refused?

Just as an FYI for everyone. I spoke to the guy putting this thing on a few weeks ago.

I asked about the Sigel/Jones thing and why those two players were picked. He said that while he thought it would be a great match, he wanted to be able to build on the match for the next one. If it is close, look for a rematch. If it is not close, look for the winner to be challenged to play the same sort of match against someone else. He said he thought it would lead to a little intrigue. (Does player A want to play Player B or are they ducking from them, etc)

He also mentioned that at least two other players were offered the challenge and flatly refused. Both players that refused are multi time World Champions.

While doing some research on the guy doing this thing might uncover some questionable things. There is no question that he has made some money out there in business. He made the comment that if the whole thing crashes and burns, he doesn't really mind. It is his money and he is not worried about losing the kind of money that is going into this thing.

Mike
What player in his right mind would turn down 100 grand? It's a charity event for Mike Segal. lets be honest

Sooooo, you all are saying that this thing'll be nothing more than another battle of the sexes thing huh? (sigh) Man, I wish they would have at least have chosen straight pool instead of 8-ball. If I remember correctly, when pool was at it's peak, straights was the game to play. Nothing against 9-ball or 8-ball (well, I'm really not a fan of 8-ball but I deal with it...), but I just know that back then, folks new straights as well as 8-ball...right?

That is a good reason why Sigel didn't pick Fisher!

The FTC says he is prohibited from running infomercials since 10-94, yet I've seen him very recently selling his book about what "they" don't want you to know about some health thing or another. His previous health claims that were scientifically unfounded lead me to believe this book will be more of the same. I haven't read it and don't plan to.

Personally, I wouldn't trust him (or the FTC, come to think of it) as far as I could throw a feather. I hope I'm wrong about him.

He's not prohibited from doing infomercials. He's prohibited from selling products that can't (according to whatever criteria the FTC uses) hold up to the claims made. Books are excluded from his prohibition however as they would be a violation of his right to free speech.

Let him do it - who cares. We will all watch it if it goes off and either applaud or ridicule it. I personally hope it goes well and leads to a full fledged tour. Why do we play nine-ball as the "pro" game when the rest of the world plays eight ball?

Maybe bowling is on TV because millions of people play the SAME game the same way each week.

Who knows? If Barry Hearn can buy the World Championships then why can't Kevin Trudeau create his own tour? Why should he have to "donate" it under the current unsuccessful format?

Just my opinon - I don't have a couple million to throw away. But if I did.........

Thanks for the clarification. I agree about 8-ball, btw.

Let me be clearer on what I meant...Kevin is a great marketer, for sure. And most here know how I harp all the time on marketing being the highest value. My main concern about Kevin is his honesty and integrity which is something else I post about often. The two must go together to acheive long-term gains, imho. This is why I fight the fights I do.

I'm watching Kevin, live, right now on the Shop America channel sell his CD version of the book I mentioned. He just gained a lot of respect from me when he admitted that he was going to break the law and then did by mentioning that limes cure scurvy.

A lot of times, honest people are blasted and punished simply for their honesty. This may be the case with him and may have misled me into thinking him a fraud.

After doing more research, I discovered that, apparently, one of my main mentors met Kevin while they were both in prison. Don't laugh, they both were in there under dubious circumstances, to put it mildly. If Kevin has embraced this guy's concepts---and by hearing some of his talk, I'd say he has---and if he actually lives them, then we're in for an exciting ride.

Jeesz ...

Loree lee gets $50,000 for losing a match. What a payday for her considering
she hasn't been in the limelight for a long time ...

I wonder if this will be one of those 'Keep it close, so it will be exciting'
matches ...

I gotta say this - pro level nine ball - live - with the right presentation is fantastic. The US Open, Derby City and now the World Championships are the PROOF that 9-ball can be great TV. When a player has to come with the shot and the commentators have set it up right then the tv audience can't help but appreciate it.

It will be a close match. That is how Mike Sigel is going to conduct it. He will win in 3 sets, 2-1 with the last set most likely winning by 1 or 2 games.

If Sigel just goes out and dominates her, like he normally would, it would be a big turn off for the viewers and fans and Mike would look like a jerk by beating that "poor" woman. Why do you think those quoats were put in the advertisement from Sigel saying, "...I am the most dominate and best player in the world...." or something to that effect. He is just building hype, like he is supposed to.. Heck, LJJ may even win to make the whole thing look ligitimate....

If it wasn't for the $50K LJJ is going to receive, I don't think she would even bother with this circus show. My guess, she and her husband (Sammy Jones, former pro player) who are friend of Sigels, probably felt some obligation to do this. I would not be surprised if she originally turned down the offer..then reconsidered for $50K...

I completely agree. The match between Morris and Kuo today was amazing to watch. I think they ruin it buy shortening the races and not showing all off the shots/games.

.
Just think if back in the 70's, Bobby Riggs would have beaten Billie Jean King. People would have said that "men are supposed to win. So what does it prove?" There would have been no big exposure for womens' tennis and the womens' liberation movement in general. But because she won, there was a ton of great exposure for women. Heck, they still talk about it today as an important event. Now, just think if LJJ were to win. There would be alot of publicity for women AND pool in general. Plus, the rematch and subsequent matches would have much greater buzz in the general pool playing population. Which, after all, is where we want the buzz to be.

Because

If it is not done in a 'legitimate' manner, it becomes all hype
or frosting without the cake.

Do we have to 'fix' these type of matches just for advertisings sake?
That deals a blow to the integrity of the sport.

If a woman beats a man fairly both playing their best .... so be it.
But, if other reasons enter into it.... you are lowering the sport, not
helping it.

Let her do it fairly ..... like Danica is doing, and not a rigged match, or
by shooting 'down' to keep it close.

Have you ever had someone 'brother' up on you in a pool match?
How did it feel? Think they really felt they were a true winner? or a thief?

You are right about the tennis, but, why play two has been players? Why not two currently active champions? Allison Fisher V. Earl Strickland? Karen Corr V. Johnny Archer? It is just too tough to compare Pool to Tennis. If the sporting public was familar with Jones and Sigel, like they were familar with King and Riggs, than it might have a chance or if it was Minnesota Fat V. Willie Mosconi in the 21 centry then people would watch. But unforunitly neither scenairo is the case here....
