Silver rings

I know this is a newbie question but what is the purpose of the rings on a shaft?

I wouldn't touch this one with a ten foot pole. Speaking of ten foot poles, when I met my first wife she had bruises all over her body. They were from ten foot poles.
She was a very large woman, to. One of those women's lib types. One day she decided to burn her bra in protest. It took the fire department the rest of the night to put out the fire.

They are mirrors for really really skinny people.

Or to match the rings in the butt of the cue.

Either way, they are not really "needed".

*fixed

Either they contain magical powers that make a cue shoot better, or they are decoration....only the ones on very expensive cues have the magic infused into them. :)

Hmm remind me never to get rings on an expensive cue...I don't want schmiegel coming to my house going all Lord of The Rings on me!

They are there to make you're cue look half ass & you like a cheap scape when you buy an after market shaft that doesn't match.

Oh it's worse than that. You have to go to the crossroads and make a deal with the devil himself....some want to play Blues...some want to play pool...either way you can make a deal if you dare......

We don't all live your rock star lifestyle I'm afraid. :sorry:

Hey, it's late on a nice Saturday night and you and I are sitting home in front of a damn computer. Some rockers' life-style that is!

Seeing where you are a newbie, I'll set you straight. Don't believe the rest of these guys because they don't know what they are talking about. They are just trying to pull your chain.

The silver rings on a shaft are what they call hashmarks. Each ring pertains to the number of years you have been playing. Each year usually is equivalent to 4 years. However if you have been playing for a long time, like I have, you may want to spread it out a little longer. I've been playing for 53 years and I have 5 rings on my shaft equaling 10 years per ring By the way, there comes a point when you exceed a certain number of years, usually 50, you change from silver to gold rings. There's a slight charge for this but well worth it. The looks I get when I whip out my shaft with 5 golden rings on it is priceless.

Hope this clears up your question.

If you have any other questions that you want answered, feel free to shoot me a PM.
