I am about to put new cloth on my table, and I wanted some opinions. I am going with Simonis 860 cause that is what I have on it now, and it is plenty fast.

The first opinion is should I stick with the Simonis green? Or what do you all think of the Simonis tournament blue? I sure did like the tournament blue cloth when I played at the state BCA event.

I was also told that Simonis makes a humidity resistant cloth that they call 860HR. I know it is super humid down here on the coast, but in a climate controlled house, how much humidity could their be? Am I going to see enough difference in the two cloths to warrant the extra expense of the 860HR?

Everyone's advice is appreciated.

i went with the blue on my table and i love it, the only downside to it is when i goto rooms that dont use blue, i kind of have trouble seeing the table, the green is so much darker (especially on tables without great lighting). There were some posts here on humidity, i think 50 to 70% is normal. Get one of those humidity gauges and hang it where the table is going to be and see what the average is, thats what i did.

I love the tournament blue color of Simonis.

I had not known about the humidity-resistant cloth. I was trying to find some more information about it.

When I look at the two colors -- tournament blue and electric blue -- I am drawn to the electric blue. However, the tournament blue color seems to be the one that is used at the professional tournaments in recent times.

Here's the swatch of the electric blue.

Hello Txplshrk,
where are you getting the simonis cloth from? Are you ordering it from the internet or getting it from your local pool/billiards shop. I'm in the market as well for new cloth and I'm looking for the best price. I think simonis sells for around $230 or so for 9ft. I feel the 'tourny blue' is a good choice....

Thanks
Brian :)

I can get you Electric Blue, Burgundy, Camel, or the Classic green for $200.00 + shipping.

Simonis 860 Professional Tournament Table Cloth was developed especially for competition-level 9-ball billiards. It is slightly slower than the Simonis 760 blend. Combed worsted wool and high thread count assure long lasting wear. This top-quality cloth is nap-free and will not pill or fluff. It is recommended for all pocket pool or snooker games. Simonis cloth is used in most every professional tournament, and is indeed the choice of champions. Simonis 860 is 90% wool and 10% nylon and weighs approximately 410 grams per square meter. Simonis cloth is made in Belgium. Enough cloth is included to cover the table bed and rails.

I agonized over the decision of green vs. blue about a year ago. I went with the Tournament Blue and I love it. Its like the room is so much brighter. My table will always be blue from now on....

When the decision to go with the 860HR arises, it's usually because someone is unhappy with the slowness of the cloth. If you are satisfied, then your only decision is which color.

I personally like the tournament blue as well. You're on the right track. You can't make a bad choice from here. Pull the trigger.

I put the tournament blue on and I am glad I did.

My room doesn't have the best lighting, but the balls are still easy to see.

I personally wanted the burgandy when I first bought my table about 13 years ago. The bad thing was I was having a new years eve party and the local billiards supply store did not have it in stock. I went with the traditional green and glad I did so. I have re-clothed my table several times and never re-considered anything else. I played on the blue cloth at the Billiards Den in Richardson, TX and didn't care for it much.

Good luck and let us know what you go with

For years I preferred green cloth to blue but nowadays I'd go for blue every time. I just seem to be able to see the balls so much better.

The blue seems really bright at night. I really like the plain old green cloth myself. Just my opinion though.

I haven't decided where I am buying it from yet. Just debating over which color to purchase right now. LOL

Mm

Well it seems that the blue is out weighing the green, but I am still undecided. I have decided that I probably won't notice much difference with the HR cloth. My table is super fast, and I don't see much variance from summer to winter. So I think the humidity factor won't be much of an issue.

A couple of years ago, I went to a local billiard distributor and got the green Simonis 860. I paid 300 bucks for it and had to drive to a warehouse to pick it up even.

I later was speaking to a pool room owner who is a friend of mine in my area. He said he could have gotten me the same cloth for less than $200. :o

Shop around and get the best bang for your buck!
