ok, most posters on here probably realize i am about ready to have new Simonis Cloth installed on my Gold Crown IV. and the likely choice is going to be the Powder Blue.

but. . . . . . . . .

here's the problem. i have been watching the Mosconi Cup from the last 2-3 years, and been checking my magazines on the Mosconi Cup and World Championships. the cloth color just doesnt look like the 1' square sample of Powder Blue that i got from Orners the other day. i dont want to get something installed that is not what i am looking for. the girls from Simonis in Chicago said that it was indeed the Powder Blue that they have been playing on. but it sure doesnt look like the sample i have?????

ok, help, what do i do here, how do i go about finding out for sure?

thanks in advance for any help.

Well, there's one guy that played in both every year and who has an "Ask the Pros" section on the AZB forum, and that would be Mr Archer. Why not ask Johnny in his forum?

omg, tv screens and computer monitors are not reliable mediums in translating real color. If Simonis says it's powder blue, it's powder blue!

-Roger (or you can always dye your own; hold a swatch of it up against YOUR tv screen and adjust the dye formula accordingly...)

Readjust the tint and color on your TV set until it comes out exactly like your swatch when you hold it up, then you'll be happy.

The color of the swatch is the color you'll get on your table. Maybe the tv distorted color is what you want and the swatch color is not what you want but can't have because it's not a real color it's a tv color. Maybe you'd better stick with pool table green.

Their electric blue will give you the look your looking for. I personaly would stick with Simonis Green. I think the blue will clash with the wood grain of the GCIV. Good luck

i currently have the Electric Blue on the table. had Simonis Green installed when the table was delivered.

the TV/Magazine colors are just different, there isnt any doubt about it. as i recall someone said in the other Simonis Cloth thread that it might be a special color cloth made just for the mosconi cup and world championships, i am starting to think this is a possibility.

wish i knew who to call/contact.
may just have to call Simonis in Chicago.
anybody have any other recommendations - other than adjusting the TV?

like everyone said, the t.v. distorted it. i was at the open, front row, and when i turned the t.v. on the table cloth looked entirely different on t.v. then it did in person.

the green does just fine anyway

I know you won't listen but here it is anyway:

Blue cloth and your wood colored rails will look like absolute shit together. I've seen it and unless you have a black crown (black rails/silver trim), it looks shitty. Green, however, looks very pretty with the Gold Crowns. You might think this is a matter of opinion, but I don't know anyone who thinks blue goes nicely with brown/gold.

the original intent of this thread was to try and find ideas/suggestions about how to find out which shade of blue Simonis cloth the Mosconi Cup has been played on. not to ask people's opinion of various cloth colors.

and no, it doesnt look shitty, it looks fine if you ask me. and since the Mosconi Cup is played on blue cloth, it sure is difficult to understand how someone could say it looks bad. but everybody has their opinion, i guess, i dunno.

and the U.S. Open does not play on the Gold Crown with this different colored blue. they play on the Diamond table with the Electric Blue cloth, and that looks fine to me also.

so, does anyone have any idea how i can find out for certain what color Simonis Cloth they are playing the Mosconi Cup on?

i emailed Felice, she wrote back and said it was the Powder Blue.

however, it just doesnt look like it to me based upon the sample Orner Billiards gave me the other day. and yes, i know we've been all through this TV thing before too.

If you're trying to get your eyes acclimated to it to prepare for a future Mosconi Cup, you ain't gonna make it. You won't even commit 100% to what a top instructor tells you to do. If Felice said it was the powder blue...then it was the powder blue which is a NEW color that they're trying to push...which is also why they were on the table for viewers to see. Either you like it...or you don't. Who gives a rat's ass what they used in a tournament. You'll be changing it in a year anyway and maybe the next Mosconi cup will have Mango or Banana as their new color.

Earl was wearing glasses on the skins game today with yellow lenses, (or so MY TV made it look that way) why don't you get some glasses with a blue tint in order to make the Powder Blue the EXACT color you have in mind? Or get bulbs with a slight bluish color to them over your table. I don't understand this whacky obsession that you have on a color that hardly anybody else other than you is going to see anyway. Lie to them if you disbelieve it...tell them that the Powder Blue WAS the cloth that was used in the Mosconi Cup. I don't think a single soul that's a guest in your house will give a flying f*#k. (I think I'd prefer the banana)

if he's been playing that long and he's still that inconsistant, it don't matter what anyone tells him. he's gonna do it his way and he'll be wondering in 10 more years why he's still replacing the wall every year because of the balls he's throwing through it.

i emailed the folks at Simonis over in Europe. they wrote back and said the Mosconi Cup cloth and the cloth used in the World Championships is for certain the Powder Blue. they also said the sample would indeed look just a little different, but it was definitely Powder Blue.

WHEW!!! I'm glad to hear that...you were on the verge of driving yourself and everyone else over the brink. So not that you know for sure, what are you going with...the mango or banana color? :D
