Simonis x-1 felt cleaner........opinions please

I'm not so sure that's true. I've played on some pretty crappy bar boxes with paper-thin felt as slick as Ralf Souquet's head. I doubt a vacuum ever touched those tables, just good hard wear and tear from playing over the years.

Good to know about the vacuum, though. I was considering taking my HD Fein shop vac to my cloth. You may have just saved the world from a thousand new curse words being invented.

I wonder about using a powerful vacuum myself. The Simonis website says not to - that "less is more" since you are only trying to pick up chalk dust and not gravel. But in another thread RKC said he uses a very powerful vacuum and it's not a problem so long as the slate seams were sealed with the right material.

Still, when I bought my vacuum I went with the Simonis advice and got a 2.5HP portable shop vac with a passive brush attachment - not too powerful but plenty to get the job done.

Just don't use powered rotating bristles.

That is the same problem I had with the Swiffer. I was pretty excited seeing how much dust they picked up until I noticed the left over fibers. I couldn't have JA over to play, too many for even him to pick off!

Now I just vacuum and then brush.

When I had tne new Blue Simonis installed I had a X1 and used it to clean the table. As I always used orange chalk I could see it picking up the orange. I would put the X1 back inot the box that it came in. After a few weeks I seen fine blue residue in the box. It wasn't the chalk it was fibers from blue cloth.

No matter what you use you will never remove all of the chalk from the cloth. A friend that has a vacuum sales and repair shop told me that no matter what vacuum you own it will not remove all the dirt, that is why when new carpet is installed one person can carry it in. When is removed it takes 2.

I bought one...the x-1 felt cleaner is nice to have in a pool hall
when you don't want to disturb games in progress.
But the real work is done with a vacuum cleaner....
..with a crevice tool and an upholstery attachment...

This is all you need for your home table.

PT109 has the most accurate review here I believe. I use mine to touch up spots between games or after a few games..... but I get perfect results with a small oreck hand vacuum (light suction) with a their horse hair vacuum attachment. Light suction is achieved because the horse hair brush attachment is about 10" wide and the suction is more spread out so less likely to pull or stretch cloth.
However, really like the x-1 for quick touch ups. Pretty pricey ($40.00 would have been plenty) but glad I own one.
