I'm watching Buddy Hall's 'How do I win from here' DVD and he mentioned Eddie Taylor's rule to play by... 'If the shot is tough, don't think tough. Think easy'. Meaning, play the easiest safety as possible without selling out.

I know Danny D'Liberto says, if a shot is tough, and the shape is tough, play a safe.

It's amazing how these simple little rules can help you a lot when you're in a tight situation. I'm sure you guys have some more... let's hear them.

If you can't win the the shot don't shoot it

That's Buddy?

If you're racking and you look up and see Buddy Hall at the other
end with a break cue ,YOU JUST MIGHT BE PLAYING THE WRONG GAME.

i really like that dvd, lots of good kicking safes.

If its a hard shot its an easy safe. If you don't own the shot don't shoot it.

one more

I just rememebered another one..

Don't play for position if you have position.

Meaning, play for the shorter/easier cue ball movement if you are already set up for that. Don't move the cb 3 rails just to get it perfect when you can just move it a small distance and shoot a longer shot to a different pocket.

That Buddy Hall tape was one of the first instructional tapes I ever bought, and it was one of the best. I learned more moves from that tape in the kicking game than any other.

Grady has a safety play tape too. There is one shot I learned from it that I use occassionally too - playing a lock up safe instead of attempting a difficult combination.

It's funny how you pick up stuff from those tapes and it stays with you forever. I probably have 5 or 6 shots I learned from these tapes that I use almost every time I play.

Buddy "The Rifleman" Hall . . .

He ruled in 9-ball . . . I've got that DVD as well - great stuff!

My basic 3 rules

1) There are NO easy shots. (Stick to pre-shot on EVERY one, especially those with less difficulty!)

2) Don't change your shot when you are bent over at the table. (Same as Tom's above)

3) Don't bump balls that aren't trouble balls.

Another one

*Every ball is the run out ball.

Yeah, this dvd and his other one 'Position Play' is excellent! At first, they're pretty straight forward shots. But by shot #10 you're like... WOAH.. how did he get over to there???

ALL of Grady's videos are like gold! His understanding of the game is unfathomable. And I love his commentaries. He's hilarious. Wish I lived closer to his area.

If the shot and safe are tough, shoot the shot, mine aswell go down with guns blazing
