Singe Vs Double Elimination?

I'm hosting the Rotation Continuous pool tourney on Feb 23rd & 24th and becoming concerned about the time it's going to take to run a double elimination in my place with possibly over 100 players. I have 16 available tables and really want the tournament play to be done on the first day by 10 PM. We run a risk of going into wee hours of the morning Sunday night (Monday morning) as well.

I'm thinking of making the races a little longer (100 points instead of 75) and playing single elimination.

Pool is the only tournament sport or game that plays double elimination anyway. I think the double elimination format was created to keep players around and in the tournament longer so they could spend money in the casino or hotel. etc.

Making the races longer allows the better player to come from behind, and if a player loses they can go home, stick around if they want, or whatever.

Any input is appreciated.

I have no idea what rotation continuous is. If you mean 14.1 Continuous I would recommend race to 100, single elimination. You will have some matches over relatively quickly, but be prepared for some that may last over an hour and a half and press the 2 hour mark depending on the players.

With over 100 players good luck getting this done in one day. Personally I dont see it being possible.

Do it single emlimination. Beats me if 100 points is long enough. I don't quite get your new concept game, so maybe 100 is still too short.

Single elim is best. Saves all the waiting around; however that will probably reduce your food & bev return.
 
Danny, about the only way I can see it happening is single elim. plus like Corey said you'll loose the food and beverage, which I know your well aware of.
Since straight pool is not in main stream thinking as much as when you were first knockin' em around, you'll most likely have allot of down time caused by rules, and such.
You could use another approach, 75 pt match winners side, 50 point match losers side, also, when someone loses or wins they play the next available winner or looser whoever they may be on their side of the board, just too keep matters moving along, don't know if that has ever been tried but it should work.
Race to 75 single elim. feels best, why, most players now adays are not running 50's and up all the time like when you were younger, so that will cause allot more innings, and by 75 points the better player should win.
Good luck if you get a 100 players. Maybe a 30 sec shot clock on all shots???? Again good luck
 
Great suggestions. Since I'm not quite certain about the time each match will take, I'll probably have the players race to 75 and pros go to 100 and make it single elimination, not risking the tournament going too late.

A 75 point race in this game should take from an hour to hour and a half, but weaker and slower players can extend that some.

Yes, we'll definitely have a 30 second shot clock, enforced.
