six jaw chucks

Don't buy a cheap copy of the good ones.
BTC SetTrue Buck are all good 6 jaw chucks with the ability to centre the workpiece for any diameter. They also have very good repeatability.
Only downside is the initial expense. Apart frm that they are great.
Emco from Austria used to make a good one and so did Rohm from Germany.

Six jaw chucks (that can be centered) are generally a good bet for basic repair work assuming you have the patience and ability to set them correctly.

Personally, I prefer to use collet closers rather than a 6-jaw chuck.

Remember with any scroll chuck, you have re-center when ever you change diameter due to wear in the scroll. 6-jaw chucks apply less pressure per jaw (half) for the same 'grip' on the work piece, which is a good thing with wood to prevent/reduce jaw marks on the work.

I think Barringer had a couple 6-jaw chucks for sale that are decent ones.
