SJM vs TheOne at Amsterdam Billiards

Prior to his arrival in NYC, TheOne PMed me to see if I'd practice with him, as he's preparing for the upcoming BCA and VNEA events in Vegas. I figured, what the hell.

So yesterday afternoon, it was SJM vs TheOne at Amsterdam Billiard Club.

It began with a game of straight pool, and TheOne ran both the first 26 and the last 26 for a well-deserved 100-29 victory. Next, we tried a little nine ball, and once again, it was TheOne, convincingly, by 9 - 4. Reeling from these two beatings, SJM finally caught a stroke, and in the next straight pool race, SJM ran a 37 to break open a tight game, with SJM ulimately winning by a score of 100 - 93. Then we tried one more nine ball race, but only had time for a race to seven. SJM got it done for a 7 - 5 victory.

Overall, it was a pretty good match, but far more important than that, I had a great time. TheOne is a great player and a great guy, and believe me, this guy will run the 100 he wants so badly real soon.

It's such a pleasure to hook up with other AZB posters for a little pool.

SJM, that is a wonderful thing. Thanks for posting the results. Looks like The One is on a roll. I have checked out his web site. I admire his spirit.
I know you must play jam up too.

Yeah they should've made it a v-bookie event, everybody knows SJM, and Craig can shoot...it would've been fun.

Thanks sjm, this really was a great day guys. I met sjm at the one and only Amsterdam billiards at 1pm saturday and sjm had organised a table until 6pm so we had time for a long session. Little did I know that sjm had not only booked a table but it was in the private room no less - what a guy!

I had a great time but more importantly it was a fun day too, had some good laughs and sjm got me a few times towards the end. Although I did find his weak spot towards the end. The mere mention of sid waddell reduced sjm to a fit of giggles and he missed at least one game ball! Unfortunately it was too little too late! Rematch on Monday or Tuesday night though, and I'm fully prepared this time :-)

PS
Thanks Donald and Sniper, these days are what makes it fun

Was there

I was there at Amsterdam from noon to 10pm playing in the 8-ball tourney. I had three hours to kill between matches so it would have been great to watch you guys play, but I didn't know about it till just now :(

Naah, there's always a risk that one of the players starts dumping... :p

Great report SJM, always nice to hear when people in AzB match up !!

MJ,
What was I thinking??? You are correct. The allure of v-cash would be so great, I'm sure one of those guys would have dumped. Which brings up the question; if convicted of v-fraud can you go to v-jail (and are concerts in v-jail referred to as a "V-Jail Singh"?)??

I was playing in the 8-ball tourney as well. I
wish I knew that The One was going to be there, I
didn't see him. I knew that SJM was getting the
private room, I spoke to him briefly, but I didn't
realise he was there to play The One. I'll have to
pass by ABC on Monday or Tuesday and see him play.

I assume you guys are talking about the Tri-State tour event. Next week its a BCD 9 ball at Comet. Anyone going?

Thanks a lot sjm

Great game, makes our match seem insignificant. You kept that one secret. tks
Oh well, shall we match up again in Las Vegas? No straight pool. 1 pocket. lol

Yes, it was the Tri-State tour event. I can't make Comet as I'll be doing the ABC Straight Pool playoffs, then I need to work on building up the brownie points with the missus before I can take another Saturday at the pool hall.

BTW I played at Comet for the first time last month; great place. The tables are really spaced apart and the decor is great (even got a snooker table there). While ABC is great, it can be difficult to concentrate fully if the place is crowded and you are on a table next to a 'pedestrian walkway', or right by the bathroom.

If you guys meet up again, can you post it on the board in advance and then get one of the front tables (8 or 9) so we can watch you guys play?

LOL ! V-Jail Singh sounds like a golf-penitentiary :)

You don't want to go to v-jail. Especially you don't want to drop the v-soap at the v-showerroom... So, my advice is to stay v-straight and avoid dumping for v-bucks ! Also, you might take a beating from your v-backer if you turn against him !

I shoot out of Comet. Bill Haley, the owner is one if the nicest guys you will ever meet. Not too many places like Comet.

hob, sorry I was going to try and go over to hoboken, and I would have pm'd you. unfortunately my mate who I'm staying with wasn't too keen! I didn't realise you or anyone else was going to be at Amsterdam or I would have mentioned it.

Loving NYC though, just had a few hours in Corner Billiards which was also nice. Sadly broke down on an 85 run at straight pool. It was a nice run but I just finished short on position on my break ball and then just missed the pack so the run ended (getting ready for our return though SJM! :-)

I'll prob be at corner or amsterdam tomorrow if anyone wants a few hours of straight pool pracitce?

Well I'm pleased to learn you got that 85 out of your system!

Our game was great, too, Nifty, and I really enjoyed it when we played one pocket, a game I don't get to play very often. As you know, you've always got a game when you come to NYC. Your first brandy is on me.
