Skip-a-palooza *Photos of New Cues*

I just got the Skip Weston cue that I ordered and as promised here are some pictures of both of my Skip Weston cues!

The cues are ebony into curly maple with ringtail lizard and everything white ivory and amboyna burl into ebony with black lizard and curly maple, bloodwood and ebony veneers.

One thing I thought was pretty interesting is that both cues weigh 19 oz with one shaft and 19.1 oz with the other.

The picture of the signature here didn't turn out very well but I didn't notice until I started editing the photos.

I think this picture is good for showing how perfect Skip's points are!

The burl cue came out really, really nice. I have seen the other one somewhere before :)..
I have a purpleheart forearm, birdseye point 6 pointer coming and a Boti copy.. should be interesting...

I agree with you Joe. The burl cue definitely exceeded my expectations in both looks and playability. I'm not sure where you would have seen the other cue before?! I can't wait to see how the boti and the purpleheart cues come out!

P.S. You all need to buy a cue from Joe! He's great to work with and he'll treat you right!!

Skip is awesome

>That Burl cue is not only the nicest Skip I have seen pics of,but one of the nicest 6-point cues SW style cues I have ever seen. Congrats,Tommy D.

The cues look like it wasn't finished, hehe. No offence.

No offense taken, I imagine it's the closeup of the signatures that you're refering to and that's just my inability to take a decent picture :)

Thanks Tommy. I can't tell you how happy I am with the cue. Amboyna burl is one of my favorite woods and the cue came out beautifully! The thing that I am most happy with is how the cue plays. I had read a lot of posts saying that burl points ruin the hit of a cue so I was a bit worried. After playing with the cue, however, it is THE best playing cue I have ever hit with.

Skip's cues

> What is his shaft taper like, and how would you compare it to a SW,Cog,or Josey "stiffness" wise,or the steel jointed Skip in the pic? My Schon to me feels a lot "stiffer" than practically any flat faced cue I've ever hit a ball with, but am also a fan of the flat faced hit,and as soon as I can will be experimenting with other cues,in fact I am looking to possibly buy a Skip myself, although it will have to be a custom order,I just haven't seen exactly what I want yet,so I'll order it. How long is his wait for example? Tommy D.

Oops!

> I was thinking about another Skip I have seen, and thought your ivory jointed cue was it,LOL. Tommy D.

I was at Skips last night and he showed me his first "peacock" Szamboti style inlays. They look really good. He also showed me a cue that will be available shortly. It's ebony nosed 8 pointer, has 4 deep red bloodwood short points, 4 4 olivewood long points with olivewood, ebony and bloodwood veneers. The backend is olivewood and ebony designed like a SW back end. If this interests you, e-mail Skip from his site...

Unfortunately I have never hit with a SW, Cog or Josey so I can't really give you a comparison with them. However, I can tell you that my burl skip hits very solid and reasonably stiff. It is kind of an effortless stroke and gives me just enough feedback. The ivory jointed cue hits a bit softer and gives more feel and plays very well too.

As far as the taper goes it appears to be straight for 8 to 10 inches and then goes into a J curve (exponential decay) until it reaches the final taper of the rest of the cue. At least that is how it appears to me as I have not measured it exactly. I do know that I like the way they play. It seems as though they are a good all around shaft whether you're playing 14.1, one hole or 9 ball. Hope that helps.

The "peacock" cue Skip is working on is for my buddy Jack. We're both waiting for our cues from Skip, probably due to come in the next couple of weeks. I'll post pics of both when I get the chance!

For Tommy D: I've heard Skip's stainless joints hit really good. My buddy Jack already has a flat-faced phenolic jointed Skip and it hits really nice. Between Jack and I, we both have Cog's and SW's. I like the hit of my Cog and Jack prefers the hit of the SW. But time and time again, Jack goes back to the Skip. That was more than enough to convince me to get a Skip of my own. Mine will have a piloted ivory joint, and Jack opted for a piloted stainless joint on his "peacock" Skip. I'll definitely have a report for all when we get the cues.

ironchef!

i have a skip i bought a couple of months ago and its awesome beauty is just an extra bonus after i hit with it. if i you may allow me to suggest to try and have one of your shafts have it installed with ivor-x ferrule with the pads under the tips and see how the cue will respond. i know you will like it, the hit will be awesome. mine has both ivor-x ferrules with the fibre pads under the dynamite tips. i was surprised skip uses the ivor-x now. jsut a suggestion you can throw this away.--diablo

Diablo, I have Ivor-X ferrule on my Zylr and Kamui tip. No pads. It hits great.
Everest tips with no pads hit great with it too.
