Skip Weston cue, need some opinions

It's true. We had more requests for Skips than Searings even...lol. What reason would I have to spread an untruth.

The two most offered up custom cues people wanted us to buy or take in trade by far.....Scruggs and Blacks.

It was quite an interesting show this year.

Interesting but that doesn’t necessarily tell you anything.

I am not interesting in Searings either. I think they are hugely overpriced. I think he has the best shafts available period. His work is meticulous. Resale is great. I think the price that I see them at is speculative. For someone that is alive, and could build tons of cues, I think they are overpriced.

I don’t know Skip Weston from Adam, and never had one of his cues. IMO, they may be great or they may be dogs. But given the choice of spending $2500 on Weston cue, and spending $2500 on a Southwest, the Southwest will sell 100X faster than a Weston cue. IMO, there is less risk buying the Southwest.

Thirdly, Scruggs and Black made a ton of cues. While Scruggs is on the East coast and Black is in Texas, there are tons of their cues out all over the country. I find more Palmers and Szambotis on the East coast too. They were made there, and cues have a tendency to stay local usually, so it doesn’t surprise me. Go to Southwest Missouri and you will find almost everyone playing with a Gilbert cue.

By the way Sean, Happy St. Patty’s day to ya!

I'm not suggesting you're lying per se. Perhaps exaggerating a bit to protect your investment but to be honest, I really hope I'm wrong. If people are searching out Skip's cues that could be a sure sign of a rebounding economy since there is clearly a lot of people with disposable income out there. :-)

Skip Weston Cue

Everyone has their own opinions and feel about what makes a great cue. I can tell you that I've been playing with one of Skip's cues for ten years and couldn't be happier. I played with Southwest cues for many years, have played with Black's, Kikel, Wes Hunter, Scruggs and many others, I'll stick with my Skip Weston. Also, IMHO his construction and execution is as good as anyone out there. Had the pleasure of spending some personal time with Skip and he's a very strong player and a great guy to boot. He's pretty much backed out of the cue making business because of the economy and has resumed his career as a master machinist. If I had the cash I'd be all over that cue.
