Skylar Woodward's new Barbox line of cues by Meucci

No offense or discrediting to Skyler's achievements. When I first learned of his name from the USBTC beating top pros like Thorsten, Shane, Darren, or Jeffrey Ignacio, I thought Skyler must be up there with the other world-class players. But it seems he doesn't enjoy the same success in other major tournaments on a 9-foot table. Why is that the case?

I certainly wouldn't want to think of a "barbox specialist" as someone who's "not accurate enough for the large table". But the evident seems to point in that direction, unless someone has a good explanation.

By the way, it seems that people on this forum are not too excited about the Meucci brand. Why is that?

Skyler beat Earl in a tournament on a 10' table, he does OK on the larger ones ;)

As slow as the bar tables in houston were, that cue better be 20+ oz's.
Alex was short all the time. Good thing he never misses!
On real bar boxes ( valleys ) , 20+ ozs is definitely needed, what with heavy
cue balls and slow cloth.
In the 70's, I used a 20oz cue with a 13.5 mm shaft to compensate for the heavy
over-sized cue ball ( turned out to be a real Balabushka! who knew? ).
My playing cue ( for real pool ) was a 73' Joss at 19.75 oz for wool cloth.
My playing cue for 860 is a Bob Frey custom at 18.65.
Its a brave new world.
Good luck Sky

73' is inanely long for a playing cue, and I highly doubt that this could be accurate. It wouldn't even fit inside most bars/pool halls.

Ken4fun, well said, it is great he has their sponsorship, so maybe he can afford to compete in some tourneys he would have to miss, the only way this game will grow is with new young talented players.

It has either a Budweiser logo or the silhouette of a naked woman on it, or it's not a bar box cue.

That's probably 1973, 73' as a length would be 73 feet which is too long for a lot of things including cars, never mind cues LOL.

Looks like meucci is making moves. Now if they only could make their joint size standard so other shafts can be fitted that isn't a meucci, cause their shafts are trash.
I like a lot of their designs, and the finish over wrap, but they also don't have the right to ask so much for a cue that has had a bad reputation for a long while now.
And especially for a bar cue. If I ever bring a cue to a bar, which never happens bc I don't play in a bar league and don't want to be that guy that brings a cue to the bar, it would be my players back up cue, 68 dollar sneaky special.
Meucci is nuts if they think someone would pay that much. If I needed a bar cue it would be McDermott lucky, great bang for your buck.

Terrible commercial and wtf is a bar box cue??

A bar cue is a cue that is so ugly, that you don't have to worry about someone stealing it.

Looks like it belongs hanging on the wall with the rest.

After all these years of using Meucci cues...now I find out that my Meucci cues are

not good enough to play in bars.:eek:

How come none of the cues offered in the Skyler line appear to be the model he uses in the video?

I watched the video, and I have some questions:

1. Why could we not see him run out the rack. My OCD is killing me. No poolplayer can stand to see a rack unfinished. Watching him break and run a complete rack would make for a better viewing. What, you had only 20 minutes to make the video?

2. What technology does the shaft have? Is it laminated? What kind of taper does it have?

3. Why would it be to your benefit to break with your player on a barbox, when it clearly isn't on a regular table?

4. Why couldn't Skylar rehearse his lines just a little better. I know it sounds overly critical, but memorizing the lines and saying them over and over to yourself until you believe in them, usually makes for a better presentation than reading off a teleprompter or a cue card.

Well, I've not been apart of this site for very long….maybe a year or so. I see no reason to continue it. This is exactly what's wrong with pool. Too much damn negativity. I can't get on here and read a thread w/o someone putting their idiotic 2 cents in on a conversation that they could honestly give a shit about……damn shame.

Comments on the AZB forums have nothing to do with pool.

This is just a forum for comments. So you want to read a forum with no comments?

I did not read one negative comment about anyone using a sneaky pete cue used on a bar box.

I love my Meucci cues.

This is my two cents....

I like a lot of their designs, and the finish over wrap,

The Barbox Cue or Shaft is made to perform similar to The Pro Shaft with some minor modifications to the front end of the shaft, allowing for the larger 13 mm size, which can be used for breaking.

ANY cue that has a wood or plastic joint will vary in size. This is true of Viking, McDermott or Pechauer too. This is because metal joints hold to size better through the hand sanding process. It is not unusual for a joint to be sanded several times before it is lacquered, due to being sent back from quality control inspection.

The metal joint is not necessarily superior though. It can add weight and shift the balance of the cue more to the front, causing additional weight on your bridge hand. It also literally creates a metal wall between the butt of your cue and shaft. Increasing deflection and getting less spin on the ball with the same amount of effort.

Most manufacturers use a larger joint than Meucci. On average most manufacturers use a joint size of .845 of an inch, McDermott is thicker at the joint running between .850 - .860. While Meucci uses a thinner joint .825 (smaller at the joint for the same reason of not having metal joints)...so other manufacturers shaft brands off the shelf will not fit. We pride ourselves in being able to provide interchangable Meucci Cues with other shaft and Meucci Shafts for other brands.

As far as the disparaging remarks about Meucci, it has been a long well know fact that Predator Reps and those who wanted to knock down the king-of-the-hill used this forum to build the Predator Brand...when it was in it's infancy. It was a profitable endeavor.

We are the #1 Meucci Dealer Worldwide as well as a Top Dealer for Predator Products. We have more Exclusive Designs with more custom options than anyone else. We can put the BarBox Shaft on a Predator butt or put the Predator Shaft on a Meucci Butt. We match both the size and the joint designs.
