Shawn Armstrong said:No need. I own a jump cue, purely for tournament play. The rules allow for them, so you're allowed to use them. I'll use them if the rules allow them. I just don't really think they have a real place in the game. I think a good safety should be rewarded. I've seen safes that would be impossible to kick out of, but are a breeze to jump out of. To run out, we rarely require PERFECT shape, except the odd shot. Due to the jump cue being allowed, there is no such thing as a good safety anymore. It's either PERFECT, or you can jump out of it.
I see your point. BUT, how many times do newbs pick up a jump cue and pocket balls with it. It still is a skill that needs to be developed. You make it seem like everyone is jumping out of tough safes and running out all over everyone. I think a good safe you will have to kick. If you allow them room to jump then the safety just wasn't good enough. If a person can jump a ball 1in away and make shots then that to me takes just as much skill as kicking a ball in. From what I see, people, especially amateurs, only pocket at most %20 (which includes the hangers) of the jumps they attempt and foul a large percentage anyways. I'll still 3 foul people all day long
