Slow pay at the World 10 Ball??

I am not 100% sure on this but heard that the players who cashed at the world 10 Ball were given a international debit card and told that it would be activated in a month.

Has anyone else heard this? why are they not paying on the spot? Also if this is not true please correct me.

Same thing at the Beijing Open. All the players were forced to get a bank account and given a debit card and told it would be a month.

I guess this is going to be the new standard. Wonder who thought up this scheme? It's actually not that bad an idea BUT why does it take a month to pay the players?

In some cases, like in the Philippines, where the added money comes from the government, the money is not paid to the organizer until some time after the event takes place. This comes at the word of the organizer. Is it true? Who knows, but that's what we've been told.

I would be concerned that other organizers are jumping on that bandwagon and doing the same thing when they really don't have to. The Emirates are good payers. So far they have paid everyone in cash at the end of their events. I don't know about Beijing. Maybe the players can shed light on what they were told.

Here is a quote from the Raya Sports website about the money for the W10BC/2011:

The prize fund is deposited with the World Pool-Billiard Association prior to the start of the tournament. The WPA will distribute the prizes to prizewinners.

If I were the person on-site from the WPA, I would be very reluctant to be carrying around $250,000 in cash. Even with checks, there is a large problem trying to cash them across borders and in other currencies. And then there are the tax laws which the typical room or regional tournament in the US never worries about.
