slow table

ps= what is fenestrated container and briney-goo? my english isn't that good

You put the calcium chloride into something with holes in it (fenestrated) because it takes water from the air, converts it to a salt solution (brine) that needs to drain into a second container under the first. The salt water that collects won't evaporate back into the air, but if it spills, it is about as much fun to clean up as maple syrup.

Damp-Rid is popular for use in boat cabins and recreational vehicles, which tend to be small and poorly ventilated. Don't know how well it will perform in a room large enough for a pool table.

When humidity is high cloth tends to loosen unless it was stretched to the max on install.

There's a disconnect here as OP says the cloth was installed 90-95% of max which makes it inherently looser then desired.
Add high humidity and the cloth should move much more than 1 mm as reported by OP.

The suggestion of some lights under the table may help. Worth a try anyway.

When i say 95% ofc this is a guess. i didnt put a device to measure it and plot a stretch/force graph. You can never pull it 100%. So I guess 90-95% is a safe bet.

i cant pull the cloth in a perfect lineair pull movement when its installed on the slate.
By just pushing my fingers into the cloth thats what i get. 1mm movement. The weave very very slight move, but its impossible to get a bubble or a "wave" in the cloth.

I tried breathing on the balls. I took around 7 seconds before it was gone. no idea if this means its to humid, as I dont have any reference. Anyone else can breath and tell how long it takes to disapear?

I use a pair of cues with the buttcap against the rail, and let the cb role and see how far it goes as a testing aid. Did it to check if clean balls made a difference. (it did draw better, but the speed was exactly the same). Gonna place a heater under the slate and redo the test.

Dude, your cloth is on wrong-side-up. Period. You can tell from the weave of the cloth.

ill losen up a corner and take a closeup of the otherside.
I can't believe if he made this mistake...

edit: its the right side up. I took a piece sticking out under the table, cut it in 2, and here you can see both sides. It is not wrong-side-up.

ok got it :D

mmm ill try it tomorow. Its 00:00, my beighbours will kill me.

ps (is this centerball hit at 100% breakspeed?)

Hey Solly,

Your camera seems to be able to get good closeups. So take a look at the cloth just under the rails and compare it to the cloth in the middle of the table. If it looks "hairy" (no reference to your tip question ) you may need to use an electric razor to trim down the hairiness. The cloth can get this way from excessive cleaning and vac-ing.Hairy cloth is slow cloth. Also while the clth may look clean you could have buildup in the cloth weave or even under the cloth on the slate.

Good idea m8. I'll check it out when the sun is up. To dark to make good closeups to see what the eye can't see.

A m8 is lending me a professional dehumidiyer for 3 weeks. Should be enough to test. I have the exact clothspeed measures ready to compare. Im going to investigate this one in dept !!

The hairy cloth (here we go again ) was one of the options i thought of too. I posted a picture, but it doesnt look to hairy. Maybe there is alot of chalk in the cloth (didnt use a cover :sorry:) but i vacuumed and brushed alot. My friends wife made me a cover thats perfect now.

I want my baby to play like heaven :p (im a perfectionist)

ps i'm really going to place a humiditychecker in the sides of the tables. I found a small one around 2 inches in diameter in chrome that would look nice in the black blinds.

Yeah humidity is a killer for ball speed. I live in Louisiana where it's almost alway 90% + humidity. I saw the electric razor thing on a sight where the guy would spray his cloth down once a month or so and use a wet/dry vac to suck the water and chalk out. He noticed his cloth played slow because it was getting hairy. He used the electric razor and the balls started rolling faster.

I'm an old 3c billiard player. Buy a can of silicone after dehumidifing the room the best you can. Spray it on the bed evenly and take a cloth and spray it with silicone and wipe it down to ensure even distribution. Let it dry.

Should see 25% more speed immediately.

Good luck,

How does this affect the draw? Seems like your filling the cloth pores with silicone to make it faster, but my first reaction is: will you still have enough grip to draw the cb?

Not sure i will try this :s Simonis should play like it should without having to spray a product on.

what do others think of this?

EDIT: EEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!! aproaching the 2k posts.

Cook here.
Solly! How many rails do you get when you shoot the CB like this?

CueTable Help

I tried it and the max i can get is 6-7 rails. More and the cb cumps of the table :grin-square:

EDIT: i got the humidity checker... GOod and bad news. not sure what to think of it.
its between 45 and 50% (50% was when we where cooking). Even if lower is better, 50% is not enough to explain the slow cloth.
so last theory standing: Dust... As i never used a cover, thats all i can think off that could be the reason.
Im gonna do a HUGE vacuum cleaning session tomorow, and see if it helps, but its probably to late. The dust is probably already so deep in the cloth it wont come out.

any more idea's?

edit going to try and warm up the table from beneath. see if that helps. It probably helps, but i dont want to use that much electricity every time i play... Just checking the results.

Lessons 1 : 760 over 860 ANY time,
lesson 2: Without a cover, you can clean, brush, vacuum as much as you want, it wont work. Investing 10€ in a cover is alot cheaper then having to replace your cloth twice as much.

One last idea. Try a can of that foaming cleaner stuff they make for cloth. The foam is supposed to lift the chalk and dirt out of the cloth and you wipe or wet/dry vac the foam. You need to do it pretty fast though in case the foam stuff might discolor the cloth.Ummm .... I think it's called Quick Clean or something like that.

Terry

If the extra vacuum dont work, ill just put up a new cloth.
Even if i get to play it faster with heat or foam cleaning, it will never play like a 760, and as all tournament have 760's, its just bad for my speedcontrole to continue training on this cloth.

PS this morning (with the heat off all night) i had humidity level of 34%.

So defenetly not humidity. :o

Take a damp, rung out, towel and wipe pressing hard from headstring to the foot of the table, take another clean damp towel and repeat, wait 20 minutes for the table to dry out and you should see a big difference. But me thinks now that the 860 is just not to your liking, you like the 760 speed, there is a huge differnce.
