Slow Table?

Hi Folks,

I bought an Olhausen table about 2.5 years ago and I've been happy about it overall. The only complaint I have is that the table is slow compared to the other tables I've played on, i.e. diamond, brunswick..., probably it's the slowest table out there. This table has the original cloth that the dealer installed, fabric is thick and heavy, it feels like a wool coat fabric in some sort.
my question is what can I do to the table now to make it a faster table? I guess I'll have to change the table cloth, if so, what's the fastest cloth out there?

thanks.

You probably have the Mali cloth on it. I would got with the Champion tournament blue cloth for the price. It plays great.

I have a 1.7 year old 8-foot Olhausen with Simonis 760. Its really fast. However, if you just want "normal" fast you might want to go with Simonis 860.

Lol ..............

Why are you asking an obvious question that has the obvious answer to it, and you answered it yourself?

Speed is almost all about the cloth. Get a good quality worsted cloth, clean your balls and you should be fine.

PS. a quality installation of the cloth is also key. Get it tight.

Beyond balls being clean, using a quality sheer cloth that is streched correctly, humidity also plays a role in how fast the table plays.

That is one of the problems that I have with my table located in a walk out basement. I run a dehumidifer 24X7 to keep the humidity below 40% Helps some, but I am looking forward to RKC's visit to redo my table. I can't wait to have it play like it should.

The "felt" that comes on original tables is like playing in the rough on a golf course.

Find a good table mechanic, make SURE you find a good mechanic.

That said, buy Simonis 860 or Championship Tournament. They'll serve you well.

If you want the fastest cloth out there but 760, but that is unnecessary.

If your table is old, you may also want to consider having the rails replaced.

On a 3-Cushion billiard table, the proper installation of the cloth on the RAILS can affect the way the table plays (long or short on bank shots for example). A good table mechanic will understand this principal. Keep that in mind when re-covering the table - don't forget the rails!
