Slowest pro players?

As great as he is, Orcullo could drive me nuts in the one pocket. A lot of it was getting up and down a million times before shooting. Like if he has 3 or 4 options he will line up on 2 or 3 and get up and down 50 times. Then announcers who try to predict what he is doing add to it. Like when he gets down on one say”He is shooting the 4 railer!” Then he gets up and lines up something else. “No, he is playing the kick bank!!” Then after a while he plays something simple.

Hennessee seemed to play a little better in some of the shot clock one pocket matches.

dennis is weird because he can be annoyingly slow and incredibly fast. that's quite unusual. he's playing heyball now, i watched a little and he didn't miss much, played medium speed in the racks i watched

I used to play straight pool against a player who would get down on the shot, stroke a few times, look back at his grip hand, take a few more strokes while looking at his hand, get up, get down and stroke a little different, get up., repeat the process a few times. I don't mind playing against a player like that if he is overthinking and misses the ball, but the guy nearly never missed. Ran 80s.

I agree that you shouldn't let it affect your game, but it's hard. I know a player who avoided some of the irritation by not watching his opponent, or at least not seeming to.
I once forfeited a straight pool league match after we hit the 4 hour mark. It was a race to 75. :-(

Somebody needs to invent an electronic shot clock that watches the movement of the balls on the table and starts counting down the moment the balls stop. You could have a quiet beeper that counts down at 5 sec to go. That way referee's would only be needed on a tv tables for the matches. If an opponent wanted a shot watched, you could find someone and ignore the clock.
This could be done if they really wanted it done and matches would forever run on time.

If I know I am about to play a slow player...I bring large newspaper and start reading quietly, trying to look like am not being distractive. If the league operator objects, I bring out my World Standardized Rules and flip through the pages. How could he object? It drives folks crazy.

or politely ask him to play faster if he wont then you have every right not to be able to not figit and move around in your chair when he is shooting.
.
that newspaper can be very distracting and make noises when he is getting down on his shot.
playing too slow means lack of courtesy for the opponent so opponent owes him none back.

Some time ago, I played Ralph Souquet. He is NOT a slow player! He is methodical. I commented about a lonnnng/thin leave I gave him, and after looking at it for20-30 seconds, he quipped what he could do, then told me exactly what he would do. He went 3 rails, hid the OB and left the CB on the short rail for a decent safety. Reasoned it out, told me about it, then shot with precision in 30 seconds.

Danny Basavich - Does anyone have a WPC video of his only (suppose) appearance there in early 2000 years? It was a monumental, as he was stroking and concentrating for 2:45 before an ordinary shot.

Nah, methodical is BS. A word used by a holes to make themselves seem/feel smart.

Same as the people that spout nonsense about "its just geometry" gtfo of here with that crap

Dick Lane playing Buddy .Is it over yet?
I had heard Dick Lane was notoriously slow, but when I watched him in a 14.1 ‘shot clock’ tournament video, he still played quite well.
BTW: ’Slowest of all time’ was Paul Jones from Chicago (George Fels had his fun steering annoying challengers to him). If Paul got way behind in straight pool, he would just drag the game out until the room closed, and the counterman threw us out. When reports of his demise were discussed, nearly every player who knew him remarked: “I hope it was a SLOW death”.
