does anyone know of a small metal lathe with a large spindle bore? i was thinking of 10-12 inches between centers and maybe a 1 3/8 bore.

Thanks for the info.

When you find something, let me know. I want one with a big hole, thread cutting ability, short bed & prefer it to run on 110ac. Grizzly's 12x24 is my choice so far, and i'll need to rig it for 110ac because it's default 220.

Eric, the link I posted above is a 12x36 and it's 110. I too am looking for 110 because I don't have 220 in my garage. This is the only lathe I found at this size that's 110.

The bad news is:
that lathe doesn't exist

You could kludge something together - prolly lots more work, time,
money than it would be worth.

Chris, that lathe should be a fine machine for cues. It's just longer than I want. The 110 conversion is not so tough, just rewiring the motor switching in most cases. But even swapping a 220 motor for a 110 isn't a big job.

For me, I have a machine for tapering, a machine for assembly & facing, ringwork, point cutting, etc. What I want is a strong, accurate lathe for precise & bog-free drilling, threading parts, etc. I don't need a long lathe because i'll never be chucking an entire cue up. I only need a 20" bed, but a with a 12" or 13" lathe headstock, tailstock & carriage. Basically I want a big machine lathe in a tiny package. Like Dale says, it doesn't exist.

Think it's gonna take some ingenuity.

DZ if you read this good work.
Once again proof that a machine for each task makes for a productive shop.
I have the capabilities to build a set up like this however I don't think it can cut threads. Doesn't look like there is a leadscrew under the carraige.

Looks like another custom job is gonna happen in the mad scientists laboratory. If I could only get Egore to pull his weight.....
