Smoking in Private Clubs

This is a question for everyone in a pool league.

What do you do if your a non-smoker and your weekly match is at a Private Club that allows smoking?

The problem I have with this one Smoking Club is that the ceilings are very low (under 6') and the room is very small. With 50 to 100 smokers all smoking makes it unbearable!:frown:

I normally can handle any other Private Club that allows smoking, but for a week after playing one night at the "low ceiling" Club I'm hacking, coughing and feel like I have the flu.

I respect the rights of others to smoke here. I just need some suggestions on how to survive the night and the week following. I swear, the smoke is as thick as pea soup. Any suggestions.......help!!!:confused:

You don't really have much choice. They joined the club for cheap booze and the ability to smoke. They aren't going to adjust their behavior for you even if you had a dread disease.
If it bother me that much I skip that week and not go. I've put up with some pretty smokey places. Usually those weeks I leave my clothes on the porch when I get home not even taking them in to the clothes hamper and sometimes even take a shower before going to bed. That of course doesn't doing anything for the sore throat or discomfort in the lungs, but at least it gets rid of the stink.
Good luck.

dont go period. i am tired of seeing old friends and acquaintances dying or sickly in their early 60,s from smoking or hanging out in smoky places. you know or have heard of plenty also. you will do much better for yourself if you just dont go.

Forgot to hit Quote...This is in response to post # 15.

This is what I would like to do....Fire Extingushers YES!!!! But I think I'd get a free room at the local jail. LOL

I think I'll opt for the suggestions in post # 20.

Use Good Communication

First, I would first try to see if there were any other teams that felt the same way and see what their ideas are.

The amount of support you have is probably going to determine what can or will be done to help improve the situation.

If you have enough support from other teams, and politely approach the league operator or club owner as a group, then perhaps a solution such as not allowing indoor smoking during matches, or perhaps at least far enough away from the table during matches if that helps.

Places usually host league teams to help business. They have an interest is trying to make guests feel comfortable so if approached properly, I'm sure there is some room for sorting something out. Might not get everything you like, but at least getting some improvement might help.

Or you could take up smoking? :D

we occasionally have a league match in a place where it's still legal to smoke (even tho the rest of the state it's not). I hate the smoke too.

If your league allows a team to have alternates, you can just take that week off and let someone else shoot. Otherwise your option is to just suck it up. Literally :/
