Anyone have wood to wood joint sneaky pete and how do they play,i hear that sneakys with phenolic rings are better and last longer any truth to this thanks.
It's only happened once so take what you want from my experience.
I have a cue made 15 years ago. It's shaft is straight with the butt and still is today.
I came upon an old Heubler and I like it but no matter what shaft I used with it it would wobble. The shaft it came with would wobble and my old straight shaft when used would wobble.
The Huebler was wood with out a collar. I decided to add a collar and get the facing resurface and add a brown and black collar.
When it came back the original wobble way less and the old straight one fit perfectly!
My cues are players and they show use but they pass this test easy!
Phenolic joint collars will help prevent splitting. I've seen it happen on an old well used Scruggs sneaky I used to own that had no collars. Whether or not you can tell the difference in the hit is debatable.
I have built them wood to wood , with wood pin , sold them as fast as I built them , couldn't keep one for myself . Everyone always liked the way they shot or broke .
Collars add significant reinforcement to virtually eliminate the cracking/splitting that's common with sneakies. They should not affect the hit or playability in any noticeable manner, if they are well fit & not too large.
