you don't have to explain yourself to me.i have my way to jump and you can have yours.my way works for me and has worked for years.if you want to jump with the middle of the tip that is fine.i will continue to jump with a glancing blow to the back of the cue ball just above center or middle or whatever you want to call it.just don't jack up 80-90 degrees b/c the cue ball won't go anywhere.

To often I see on this forum opinions or even just plain B/S being passed as fact so as to make one persons "opinion" or technique or materials sound much more plausible. This irritates me to no end.

it's a public forum,don't let it get to you so much.i never passed any BS as fact all i did was explain why i thought the ice breaker had leather in the middle and phenolic on the outside.i thought it was pretty simple.then you are the one that went into the center ball jumping method,jacking up doesn't come into play and how it is better and less miscues,etc.

anyway we can just leave it at that if you want,you and i jump a different way and my way is wrong and i shouldn't be talking about it in here.it really doesn't matter that much to me.

It's strange, but I don't really see the argument here. Just 2 opinions on the subject. From what I've seen, (and this is from some pretty decent players), is that there are 2 schools of thought. Each both of you have hit on. One is middle ball, and Dick, I was always taught to jump this way, as you mentioned, so My thought was oldschool too, but I had this guy show me how to hit just over middle, and wow, It really improved My jump game. I was jumping full lenth like Allison Fisher on the spot. It's not much top english at all, just a hair like you would use on some position shots where your just trying to stay inline through making minor ajustments.

Yes, the wrist is key though, doesn't matter which school of thought your into, because the wrist rings true in both senerios.


BTW We are talking about a hair of top english, and not outside english correct? I play My share of mase shots, but rarely would I do that on a jump shot, I really prefer to keep the cueball on the table, and to mase or kick a rail before jumping, that is unless It's a straight forward jumpshot. I try not to do anything too fancy when jumping a ball.

What I really prefer is to have My speed and englishes down for the night, so I don't ever have to use any of those options. If only every night went that way for me

correct.hair of top and hit back of the ball.i didn't even realize the other way was an option until this thread.

For a most jumps, you hit well below center relative to the cue's plane. Unless your tip is shaped like a bullet, you will be contacting the ball near the edge of the tip.
