Snooker and/or Billiards In Orlando

Hello again, first of all I would like to thank those of you who responded to my previous thread and I will continue to pick your brains without hurting anyone. Is there life for snooker in Orlando? I'm pretty sure that billiards might have an edge but surely snooker cannot be that far behind. How about a room that has not only pool but 2 billiards and 1 snooker table? Thanks.

You previously posted that you were planning on 29 tables, so drop a couple pool tables and add a snooker and a billiard table, sounds like you can afford it. I think these days we have to deversify and offer many things to make a buck.
I know snooker and billiards has been offered in orlando but, I don't know how that turned out--they are closed now. It was a really nice room, and orlando needs another really nice room.
If you want to see some nice rooms in Florida, take a ride down u.s. 19 and check out, Hammerheads, and Strokers and also Capone's in Springhill. They seem to offer many options and it will give you some ideas.

I would think the snooker vs billiards would be determined in part by ethnic demographics of the neighborhood. What cultures live or visit the area you are considering? What is THEIR game of choice? You might be surprised once you look into it? What types of restaurants do well? If there are a lot of Korean restaurants you m ight want billiard tables and stock some sets of 4 Ball for them. Just one suggestion. Thanks for reading.

pro billiards the pool room of choice by the "players" in the orlando area ,had 2 heated soulagard billiard tables that had a dedicated following as i remember. my coach was one of them.
all 9 foot tables, but no snooker.
we all miss the room, even though i myself, had to drive 40 minutes to get to it.
i live 30 miles north of Orlando and would be happy to meet you in Orlando any time. Being a Diamond table dealer in this part of the state, i would love to sit and talk with you on your future plans.

Billiards and Snooker

I've lived in Orlando since I was 5 and been playing locally off and on since I was 17.

There used to be a billiard only room on SR50, in the oriental section, but I don't know if it's there anymore. Low end section of town and the room was right in line with that.

Q-biz on SR434 in Longwood was my home room off and on for years, and when they first opened they had one of each, a 10' snooker and I think a 10' carom table too. Neither got much use, or played worth a damn for that matter. After checking them out when the room was new and seeing how bad they were, we ignored both of them.

"Pro" Billiards was a great, mniddle speed action room back in the early 90's called "Manatees". Lots of action, albeit small stuff when the Navy base was humming. I never did visit "Pro" after Manatee's closed, I took about 15 years away from the game. Actually I'm only dipping my toe back in now.

Corner Pocket out at 417 & 50 had a back room with a 9' pool, 10' snooker' and 10' carom, all with kuh-razy fast granito (sp?) cloth on them back in the late 80's early 90's. The snooker table saw plenty of golf action from the retired set, but I don't think I ever saw the carom table in use except by me just confusing myself.

Overall, I don't know if there's the kind of money or clientel for those two specialty tables in Orlando. Maybe further South where the money flows and there's more "culture".

I'd love to see a nice room in North Orlando. Right now, I don't think there's anything between Fastbreak (434 & 17-92) and... Deland? Or Brown's in Daytona.

There's money and damned little to do between Lake Mary / Heathrow and the St. John's bridge. Just don't price me out of a decent long practice session, and for God's sake, put some decent equipment and smoke control in it.

PM if I can help any more.

Corner Pocket still has the 10' snooker table as well as the Carom table. Both tables get very little use from what I have seen.

I speak with a lot of people that would like to see more snooker and carom tables - mostly I hear that from people from India, UK, and Pakistan - but there is also a large Hispanic population in this area that play 3C. In my room in El Paso I had 2 snooker tables and to be honest, it really wasn't the wisest use of my square footage. I would get the occasional customer that would come in and use them - or the old timers played golf on them, but it wasn't enough to justify the space that they took up.

The best advice I could give to you is to get in touch with Mike House - he posts here at Az (M HOUSE) ... Mike is the best authority on these subjects and he is an invaluable resource of information and experience in this area.

Out here in California alot of Asian and Hispanic people love Billiards 3 ball and 4 ball. You get more people watching, playing and gambling. They bring more friends in that they think can beat the guy they lost to last night. Some even bring thier whole family in to watch so you make more money in table time, food and Video games from the large families they bring in.

If you start off with 1 table its death but start with 3-4 at first and you get them coming in 8-10 hours a day.

You can start off with old Brunswick 5x10 or Ohlhausen tables @ a good price then upgrade to heated tables if you customers want the heated tables. Most dont care has long as it has no pockets they love it.

If your going to get into snooker and billiards aside from regular pool than make sure you isolate these two from the regular noisey crowd which includes loud music. You may want to partition them off and control the loudness for that part of the room. These two table games are usually played by serious players who like low noise. I think it's got something to do with Concentration. Something you can't do in most poolrooms today, especially on weekend nights. Of course you could issue earplugs at the door.
