for any Houston players looking for a game of English billiards or snooker...I'll be at Casper's tomorrow around 3pm

No money... just friendly games

Official WorldSnooker Rules...

I really wanted to come, but had to take care of my boy. English billiards is a game I have never played. I know Horrace Lindrum dominated it for years. There are several lindrum videos on youtube. Let me know the next time you guys get together.

wow... Caspers was FREAKING AWESOME..... and actual snooker baize!!! Considering the fact that they have a proper set of long tackle, they lack a spider rest.

anyways I had a long discussion with the owner...seemed very unaware that there are a few diehard snooker players in Houston. He said he has the other table in storage because he used it for parts to fix the one that is set up....the second table has Simonis 300 rapide on it.

I am going to look for a set of Super-Aramith Russian Pyramid balls so we can play free pyramid. The next time I go... I will let you guys know in advance. Seems like Saturdays during the afternoon are great because the place is empty... and it is $8/hr

if you guys can keep your eyes out for websites that sell the Super Aramith Pyramid set ... I'd appreciate it....here is the pic

We need to press the owner to set up the other table. The United States Snooker Association would sponsor the felt and labor for the tables if he would agree to host a tournament.

im game just let me know when. Caspers is a Awesome place. this sunday and next sunday i can not make it. (dang relatives.) but after that im in.

Gordonramsay: sounds like you're easily impressed, if you think Caspers snooker table is awesome! May be I'll brag a little about my setup.... Neah, it's just better, that's all. And oh yeah $0/hr

yeah.... I was like... wow... I wonder what drsnookers table looks like now!... <less from what mnorwood has in his vids>

oh.. well the owner is going to order some more baize for table that is presently set up...Riley Strachan? He also needs to buy an extra leg support for the one in storage...the storm swept a leg away. And seriously invest in a good set of balls. He was telling me that at one time he had 4 tables in possession... and expressed the interest in buying more....hopefully

The cook even came up to me and talked about the game....

then some "cholos" ...(look it up on urbandictionary) came in started playing loud obnoxious music while attempting to play pool(thinking the 9ft's were coin op)

I don't know if I am going to go next week... but I will let everyone know.

my high break was 28...not bad for only the second time on a 12ft

Everything is relative. Compared to Big Daddy's in Alvin Caspers is awesome. Due to the obscurity of snooker in the states any place to play is nice to me. The only two things that would put me on the road is bad lighting or no AC.

I guess I have the luxury of my own table, which really limits what I'm willing to tolerate, drive an hour and pay money to play on.
I agree that the more snooker tables the better here in the US, get more exposure, extend the talent pool of people that know how to play, get ESPN coverage of the US championship etc etc.
I'd like to think that I'm a descent ambassador of the game by inviting (most) everybody in the pool leagues I'm playing in, to come over and try snooker under the near ideal conditions at my house. But the sad part is the most return home discouraged rather than accepting the challenge, never to return again.
Until we reach that critical mass, it will be very hard for a pool hall proprietor to make money on that handful of us hardcore snooker players.

I don't mind coming over to your place and losing every game, its as fun as winning every game. I just don't have a place to practice. I have a hard enough time fitting in pool practice. What this area really needs is a snooker club. I will play more pool and snooker in time. The secret to this is finding a player that has a ton of money to drop on opening a place.

Turn your head and... ???? Gordon? That isn't my doctorate. And when mnorwood comes over that's not a bend-over-and-say-"Ah". Just a friendly @ss kicking.
I'm already an enabler, don't ask me to be your dealer for this addiction too!

:scratchhead: Okay don't quite know what you mean. If you are indeed the doctor of doom go out to the nationals next year and snap it off.

At this point I'm definitely planning on going next year. I have friends two miles from the snooker club in LA! But you know this silly full time job is just sucking up my practice time....

My fool time job is equally silly but you have ample time to get ready for the tournament. Diaper changing and dr seus have a way of cutting into my practice time a limitation I don't think you have.

That might be, but 6 and 8 hour days at the table are just not doable. I think that's what it's gonna take to get from where I am now, to where I need to be to be ready.
