Snooker cue

I've been playing around with learning snooker and would like to know if there is anyone out there who may be interested in trading a decent snooker cue for a standard pool cue of like value. I have several Schons and some other custom cues if anyone is interested. Does anyone know a good place in the US or a US maker who offers them. Just looking for a solid well made cue that I'd enjoy using. If really take to the game I'll get a custom one made when I understand what I need. PLease feel free to PM with any suggestions.

Getting a custom snooker cue in the U.S. is tough. Last year I found a reference to a snooker distributor at some pro shop in a New York pool hall, but I can't find it any more. In Houston I think there may be a shop that imports snooker cues. Given the number of snooker tables in California, you might find some dealers there who sell snooker cues.

In the near future Mike Wooldridge will make his Virtual Cue Maker available. I played with the software when it was in beta and found it to be wicked cool: you can choose the wood and set other options and see a picture of the cue as you "build" it. (I have a Mike Wooldridge snooker cue.)

I would also recommend contacting user ADR147 here on AzB; he sells snooker cues from the UK. For advice consider contacting drsnooker, Wity, DKhan, and others who post in this forum regularly.

Cool, thank you very much for the info. There is not a lot of snooker played around here (Colo.) but there are a couple tables in town. However, the players there are not very knowledgable about cues. I've been using a Predator2 and waqs surprised how well it played. Much better than my standard shafts fro some reason. I have a nice collection of pool cues but snooker cues remain a mystery. Saw a nice custom one this weekend though so that was heplful.

Playing snooker with a low-deflection shaft could help a little bit; even a little left or right English could throw the object ball enough to miss the wee little pockets. A low-deflection shaft could reduce this throw a bit.

A few weeks ago I was in Hong Kong and I had the chance to play on 6 x 12 tables. To check my alignment I placed the cue ball in one corner pocket, an object ball on the blue (5) spot, and shot it into the opposite corner. With that sort of test you might be able to measure the effect of using different shafts.

At last count there are 12 snooker tables in Colorado. If you're in or near Colorado Springs then you might check out the 6 x 12 table at the Antique Billiards Museum. Looks like an interesting place.

Colo. Springs is about 100 miles south of here but I know about Antique because I have a friend who goes there on occasion. The alignment drill you mention is an excellent one and I do it nearly every day both on a snooker table and a pool table. Very simple but effective way to straighten out your stroke and position.
