Hey there,
I live down the street from Warehouse and shoot snooker there several times a week. No one ever wants to play there though. Send me a message some time if you wanna meet there and hit some.
Thanks, Crownedone61. I'm only in town for the weekend, but the next time I'm in Austin I'll send you a message in advance.
You might find some UT students (esp. Europeans and southeast Asians) who would play snooker if they could make it down to Ben White.
Getting people to play snooker can be tough. In Massachusetts there are three of us who play regularly on Tuesday nights, and I usually end up grabbing somebody to join us so that we can play doubles.
A few things I've noticed:
1. Most people don't know how to play. No surprise there.
2. The size of the table can be intimidating, especially if it's a 12 footer.
3. Some people would prefer to stick to familiar games.
To combat those problems we've tried to..
1. Invite people to play, throw them in a game, and teach them the game as they go.
2. Make it clear that missing a shot is okay, and that it happens to everybody. I play fewer safeties (if any) against someone who's new.
3. Try to make the game seem familiar. My typical explanation: "It's kind of like straight pool except you alternate shooting a red and then one of the other colors, and then at the end you shoot the colors in order, sorta like 9-ball."
Any other ideas?
