The World Snooker Championship will be sponsored by online bookmakers Betfred.com.

The China Open picked up the Bank of Beijing and Hyundai as principal sponsors.
 
Bankers, bookies, insurers they are all of the same creed : mobsters.

Bring back the good old baccy companies i say :D.

fred done is a really nice guy and will do a lot for the game.

a genuine bookmaker who is the best for all the punters in england he will try his best for the sport
 
Wow.:yikes: That will go a long ways to put to rest any doubts about the integrity of the game.

However, I guess its better than having no sponsor at all.:scratchhead:

did they make public how much they sponsored for?

will be interesting in 2 years when bbc contract is up will they renew? and for how much $ you cant run a world title like they do now with only betfred money, only thing holding the game together is bbc money 5 mil or so a year if that goes the game will fall apart within 2 years

I don't know anything about betfred. The only way there would be serious cash is if its a subsidiary of some larger corporation. Again I have no knowledge of this company. With major sports in the US loosing sponsorship like the LPGA and NASCAR you know the overall economy is bad. Couldn't Eurosport keep the game floating?

large enough to finance worlds is a pretty broad statement! years ago the world prize money was 1.4 million pounds then cost of running event which would bring it close to 2 ish (est). i doubt their getting more than 750,000 per year from sponsor its a guess, but when a betting company sponsored world 8 ball it was 40 grand so i mean the only thing that is keeping snooker going is the bbc money. if they were getting decent sponsorship they would release figures i think, they could run events without sponsors because of bbc cash. it will be interesting how or if bbc will renew the contract for snooker if they do i doubt they will give anymore than 50% of this contract. so when world snooker announce new sponsors now it means nothing as they dont need the cash to run the world title the sponsor could be for as little as 200,000 better to have a name on event than not but monkeys could run world snooker at the moment with all the cash from bbc id bet though in 4 years time snooker will be crippled
