So much for ivory......

I can see it now. All the custom cues from when the law is passed forward are going to have a "title" that comes with them to show where the ivory was purchased and that it is legit. All the guys selling the older customs at BCA and APA will have signs that say, custom cues with lots of white stuff. ;)

A little further research indicates that this new rule will not be in effect until sometime during the summer (likely until late June) so it's not illegal yet. At least not today, probably not tomorrow

Yes, so, buy those ivory ferrules while you can guys.

So, is there going to be an ivory feeding frenzy or are sales going down since the market for cues with ivory content will not be sold across state lines, reducing the number of cues produced with ivory content?

Until a law is passed, my understanding is that it's status quo right now. What this may do is put guys like Warther out of business. And by out of business, I mean he might sell out everything he's got in his warehouse by the end of this week. As proposed, you'll still be able to order a cue from a maker, you'll just have to go there to pick it up in person. Everything ivory that's used in cues now anyways is legal pre-ban ivory, with the correct paperwork. Cuemakers should be getting (or are definitely able to get) the origin documents if they purchase from legit sources like Warther.

I'm sure there will be more to come on this down the road....think of this as just the first chapter of a book.

I feel sorry for the guy who has to drive to Alaska to pick up his cue, because flying will become a huge gamble.

The Fish and Wildlife Service has already stated they won't seek to prosecute individuals selling ivory trinkets, etc. Instead they will target its law enforcement efforts towards organized traffic rings that profit from the illicit trade.

Yeah, right. Until they realize they can't build legal cases against organized crime. Then, to justify their existence, they'll go after the little guys. See "Drug crimes" See "copyright infringement" See "professional licensing, re: hair stylists"

This administration has made it clear that laws don't need to be passed. It will "accomplish its goals" by executive/regulatory fiat. The professor of constitutional law says "screw the Constitution."

how is this going to make any difference. I drive over the speedlimit also.

if I sell a cue with ivory, how is the fedex man:
a. going to know theres ivory in the cue ?
b. going to know theres even a cue in the shipping tube ?

I have never yet had to pack a cue in front of the shipper. I just bring it in, and ship. Nobobdy's business what's in the tube.

I just don't understand everyone's angst about this.

I can see logic in your words but, how do they spot cues with ivory going outside of US? I am thinking same methods will be used for domestic packages.

The post office doesn't have the man power or funds to do this. We should not have anything to worry about.

Well.... Big Brother has access to any phone call or email about the sale. Google has called in the feds on people breaking a law already...

They probably won't have the resources available to check EVERY cue but if they confiscate a few big cues here and there I think it would make most people a little gunshy about sending them through the mail, don't you think? I wouldn't want to play russian roulette with my money, that's for sure.

I guess seller's will just have to use a different word when selling a cue, like ifoury, i4ry, white bone or something like that if you catch my drift.
