I hope the cue makers can answer this for me. I know that Predator puts a sport wrap on their BK2 and the poison VX line has a soft cushiony rubber type wrap. Can I have a wrap like that put on my cue that has no wrap by a cue maker. I am looking for something like that to be put on my break cue. I have talked to the only two cue repair people I know of in my neck of the woods and they don't do wraps like that. Help !!!

I don't blame anyone for not doing wraps like that, I had the misfortune of changing one over to Irish linen, It was .078 thick which is just wrong to begin with in today's cues. Now maybe some info that can actually help you, Predator has the replacement wraps like that in Florida and have someone who installs it in house, Maybe they can help you.

The only thing I can think of is Earl Strickland and his tennis racket wrap.
Are you thinking of something of that nature?

Thanx for the referral but I hate those wraps and I want as little to do with them as I can get away with. They're not even real leather and the groove they sit in is a canyon.
I've got 3 of them in the shop right now that the clients would like to have linen installed instead. I'm going to have to wrap the cue twice with linen, one over the top of the other, to get the height I need to get flush with the finish. Sometimes I wonder who comes up with this stuff.
Unfortunately, my ranting isn't going to make my task(s) any easier.

I have 2 in my shop right now (the BK2) to re-wrap because they tear up the cue cases when trying to pull them out. It doesn't matter if you put them in joint up or joint down, the rubber grabs the liner of the cases and pulls them out. Both clients have Instroke cases.

Hi KJ:
Trying to stay in line with the weight of the cue, I used a .035 sycamore veneer and put it on like a leather wrap, then recut the channel

OH, you and I know the answer to that but it's a secret. :sorry:

I'm not familiar with that style of wrap, but I did notice someone compare it to the wrap on a tennis racket. If that's accurate, you could pick up a very similar material at any quality bicycle shop. They use it to wrap the handlebars of road bikes. It's fittingly called grip tape. Traditionally, it's made of cork in a variety of colors. It is now made of a variety of synthetic materials as well.

sorry i only read the title of this thread before i posted my last post. you can get yourself some roll over rubber wraps from seyberts for a few bucks. just make sure you take it off before you put the cue into your case or you could have a pretty serious problem on your hands. i keep a rubber roll on sleeve in my case just incase i get a break cue one day.

you could always just stick with irish linen and rub the wrap with wax paper

Thanx

Sounds like this type of wrap is a real pain for you guys as cuemakers and it could be for me if I ever want to change back to something else. It also scares me that it would be a problem getting it in and out of my case. Sounds like something that isn't worth the experimentation. Thank you all for your input.
