Some Kind of Gambling Etiquette, Please!

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but you guys need to man-up and quit being whiney gamblers. Step up to the plate and take responsibility for your own actions.

1. You can't engage in "friendly gambling" with people who aren't your friends.

2. It's YOUR responsibility to let your opponent know exactly what YOU expect of him. In the example you give this is especially true since you were a) the person who woofed and b) the more experienced gambler.

3. The only rules are a) play fair b) pay if you lose and c) collect if you win.

If you're going to complain about the "kids" today not acting like they did back in the "old" days, then you too had better act like a gambler with some heart would have acted back then. What is with the "no thank you" to the nit wanting to bet "high" at 10 ahead for a Cecil? You walk away? Show some heart man! Throw a G on the table and tell him to come up with some bank or shut up when grown men are in the pool room. You won't get the game, but at least after that the little nit bastards will leave you alone.

Firstly, I don't give a hoot in hell about friendly gambling. I f I went ot the pool room looking for friends, it would be different. I don't hang with many from the pool room.

It is my responsiblity to educate these juys? I don't think so. Besides I didnn't woof at this guy one little bit and I don't woof period.

Show some heart? I did exactly as I was supposed to do. Most of them never carry more than $150.00 and God forbid you should win $100 of it, because then they are subject to call the cops. I had over $1500 on me and why in the hell would I let one of these guys throw a toothpick at the lumber yard?

The heart part does crack me up though because I assure I have more heart than anyone in this city.

Maybe I should have thrown it on the table and woofed some as you suggest and there was a time I would have, but, that behavior is a bit dangerous in these parts. Not many around here have ever seen $1000 cash.

Ironman, when I said this I was talking about crawdad - IMO when you start gambling with someone without any prior understanding of how long your playing and then expect someone to give you a chance to win your money back - that's only something you should do with your friends.

Again, was talking about crawdad's scenario. He woofed, he played, so hell yeah it's his responsibility to let his opponent know what he expects, i.e. how long are we playing, how many sets, etc.

How does asking to lock up a grand playing 10 ahead allow him to throw his toothpick at your lumberyard.

If you're in a poolhall where not many have seen a thousand dollars at one time, you're in the wrong poolhall.

San Antonio? Where the hell were you - Rocky J's??? (for those of you that don't know, its a teeny--bopper hangout).

Understood.

No, I don't go to Rocky J's. I have been in thee once, I think.

Really, it is just my frustration with this place. There is no action here and hasn't been since John Hager jr. moved to Dallas about 3-4 years ago.

It's okay though because within 3 weeks I'm out of here too.

My true frustration is that the way I play anymore, I SHOULDN"T bet more than about $20 on anything.

In the yester years he won a big tournament in chatanooga, TN and after that he did not win any biggies. He was not a short stop and he played pro speed.
Thanks i know him very well and if you re read i said he plays like a shortstop NOW. Tony did play pro speed and with a re reading you will read that i also said he was a threat to beat anyone in the world in a tournament

Thanks guys. I guess I should have let him know at the beginning what was going on. By the way, I can't remember who it was that said he'd take the four and the break from anyone. Trust me, my man, there are people that, if you let them rack the balls, can get there. I give weight most of the time I play, and remember.... they are just balls. What you are betting on is your percentage of running out each time you hit the table. Would you really take the four and the break from Johnny? Or does it just sound too good to be true? Think about it. Now, I did it on a drinkin' whim stirring up some action. But, if you talk about what spots are fair, etc. Be careful what you say you'll take. I'll play most anyone around where I live, rankings aside. I give 90-95% of them weight. Some of them thought it sounded too good. I have beaten quite a few 6-7 APA guys giving them the six. But our league rankings are quite bogus. I am not even what I consider a "player" in the pool world. I work 50 something hours a week with two children. Imagine though, what Johnny, Tadd, Efren, Rudolfo, etc. could give the guys I gave the six. It is all about runout percentages, not balls. What if a guy gives you the two ball? If you don't have an opening shot on your break, (over half of the time), and he can put a couple of racks together quite a few times... see where this can lead you? It sounded good. There aren't three people I won't play even in my area and I've had Cliff give me the six and the break, and Rudolfo give me the seven and the break. Think about it.
