Nice job

I think you did a great job. I like that you didn't have to copy another's lathe and still used taig parts. Good job.

Jim.

?

Really cool lathe, this is just what I need, all other lathes here are much too much for doing tips. What do you figure total cost for me to rebuild this exact lathe ? A parts list would be awesome.

Looks great Chuck and if you can find a six or seven foot piece of 80-20 the steel taig bed will fit right on top and you can have it one piece for travel tipping.--Leonard

Does any one sell a tip shaping tool rest like that? Great low tech idea.

I can get close to perfect by eye, but this would be nice.

Bob Dzuricky (DZCues I think) had some a while back - or check his website.

Like I said Taig kit was 160.00 from cartertools they maybe have the larger headstock (which you will need )probably more money
100. 00for the Penn State motor.
Eveything else I had laying around but the cost will add up
80/20 and guide block 50.00+
4 inch angle aluminum 12.00 ft and you need a metal bandsaw to cut it
Parts for reverse swich 15.00 plus 7.00 shipping and you need to assemble
bearing and bushing assembly 15.00
3 or 4 jaw chuck 50-60
Plus some more money for stuff I forgot

I would try Todd for a basic lathe thats not too expensive

I think I made a couple of these if your interested, but how hard can it be to make one
Drill hole in aluminum flatstock and cut to fit with bandsaw

Curious where you got that additional carriage? Is the clamp that slides also included with the carriage? Looks like an inexpensive way to attach a rest for both shafts and house cues.

Carrige is made of 80/20 extrusion (1515s profile) I think they come up to 97 inches long. The thing that slides is called a linear bearing that I modified alittle, also by 80/20 .Have a few left (top of pic)
