OK guys I need some help here! As you know I have really been working very hard to improve the playability of this table. I am nearly done and just want to play on this thing but will not stop short of having it come out as best as I can get it.
I have the slates done and leveled the leveling took about twelve hours but it was real real good when I was done. Very interesting working with these slates and finding areas like slate seams and pocket areas where the slate has been sanded. Anyways that all came out good. A ball rolls very slowly and stays on course any where I am rolling it without the cloth on it.
Now I put the cloth on and slow rolling balls the balls are tracking left or right as they are nearing a stop. You can even see the balls tracking left and right as they roll but is most noticeable as the ball is rolling on the last 6 inches. Sometimes it will turn left then turn right in the last 6-8 inches and it will do this by as much as a half of a ball. Really these things look like a drunken sailor stumbling around.
Things I have eliminated:
Tried several different balls
Removed half of the cloth and the same balls roll to a target at a very low speed with no roll off.
Inspected the underside of the cloth looking for anything that might be between the cloth and the slate, nope.
I am going to pull the cloth off entirely and try brushing the back side but I don't that is going to do it. This stuff is a lot fuzzier on the back side than the 860 I took off. Also, I am going to try backing off the stretch a bit. I used the Simonis directions and marked the cloth before the stretch so I knew how much I was stretching it. I did 5" the length and 3" for the side which was real tight for this cloth which is a worsted cloth. It was much harder to get the 3" from the sides so maybe that was too much?
Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong? I am really pulling my hair out!!
