OK guys I need some help here! As you know I have really been working very hard to improve the playability of this table. I am nearly done and just want to play on this thing but will not stop short of having it come out as best as I can get it.

I have the slates done and leveled the leveling took about twelve hours but it was real real good when I was done. Very interesting working with these slates and finding areas like slate seams and pocket areas where the slate has been sanded. Anyways that all came out good. A ball rolls very slowly and stays on course any where I am rolling it without the cloth on it.

Now I put the cloth on and slow rolling balls the balls are tracking left or right as they are nearing a stop. You can even see the balls tracking left and right as they roll but is most noticeable as the ball is rolling on the last 6 inches. Sometimes it will turn left then turn right in the last 6-8 inches and it will do this by as much as a half of a ball. Really these things look like a drunken sailor stumbling around.

Things I have eliminated:

Tried several different balls

Removed half of the cloth and the same balls roll to a target at a very low speed with no roll off.

Inspected the underside of the cloth looking for anything that might be between the cloth and the slate, nope.

I am going to pull the cloth off entirely and try brushing the back side but I don't that is going to do it. This stuff is a lot fuzzier on the back side than the 860 I took off. Also, I am going to try backing off the stretch a bit. I used the Simonis directions and marked the cloth before the stretch so I knew how much I was stretching it. I did 5" the length and 3" for the side which was real tight for this cloth which is a worsted cloth. It was much harder to get the 3" from the sides so maybe that was too much?

Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong? I am really pulling my hair out!!

What kind of cloth are you installing?

I knew you were going to ask that! Velocity Pro I really want to give this stuff a shot but I play way to well to tolerate this issue.

I know you got those stretch lengths from me in my previous posts on the Velocity Pro, and I can tell you on my GC3 with Aremith Pro balls it does not roll off at all with the same stretch. Hope you find the problem.

With bare slate the ball does not roll off at all! I pulled the cloth completely off and there is no debris on the slate or cloth. It has to be the cloth. My balls are Centenials but it can't be them anyway due to the fact the balls rolls straight on the slate. I really had a hard time getting to the 3" stretch I mean my fingers were turning purple.

Scruffy, Can you tell me how much stretch you put on the Velocity Pro stuff? Are the balls rolling right and left like a staggering drunk?

Glen,

I know in one of your earlier posts you had installed Velocity and had the tracking issue. Did loosening up the stretch help it or cure it?

could it be the balls following the grain of the cloth?
i am not familiar with Velosity cloth..
i have seen this with mali and championship titan cloths.

I do believe that is what is happening. But, this is a worsted cloth not a woolen. This cloth is pretty stretchy and I was taking it near it's limit. Maybe this opens up the grain of the cloth too much?

Had the same problem with the cloth at Pool Sharks in Vegas. Damp wipe the cloth, and vacuum brush the cloth over and over, that'll soften the surface of the cloth enough to stop it from tracking. Use a shop vac, with a brush, that works the best;)

Glen,

Thank you Soooo much for that info. I will try that and report back.

I did pull the cloth back off and then reduced the stretch the stretch a bit. I am probably at about 4 and 2 now.

could it be that the cloth just has some high spots and low spots in it.
naaa, that cloth tracks the balls noticeably if installed tight, which IS how cloth should be installed;)

We've sold a few cuts of Velocity (240+) so far this year with only positive comments.
First I'm hearing about ball tracking.

I first mentioned it about a year ago when I installed it on the pit table in Pool Sharks, was only on the table for about 3 weeks, replaced it with Simonis 860 tour blue;)

I remember you saying something about it awhile back but didn't recall the issue.

Well it is together I just have to nail in the pocked nets. Not a real fun job. I have a bunch of stuff to post the the Diary thread. I am able to get 4 lengths of the table with a pretty hard hit which I thought was pretty good.

Still have the tracking problem with the cloth. I am tired, frustrated and going to bed it is 10:45 here.

Almost there

Just thought I would post up a couple pf pics. I have not yet finished nailing the pockets. Pocket before.jpg
