If it helps any, the Miz's first (of two) cues was made in 1966. He was using the Dove cue professionally as early as 1971 in old photos (maybe a bit earlier). So this would put a dove being made in say 69/70 as his second cue.
To keep this thead relevant, the Jerry Bushka design gets the attention, where the others don't seem to. Draw your own conclusions.
For your post, yes, it helps, it's exactly right. As a high-schooler in 1970 through 1973 I saw Steve playing with the Dove Bushka at Jack and Jill's, owned by Bill (Weenie Beenie) Staton in Arlington, Virginia, during that time frame, as Beenie did tournaments then.
This thread aside, as I think some febrile minds both miss-communicated and possibly mis-interpreted some facts, regarding the production of Balabushka cues. I'm not drawing any conclusions.
To put it into perspective though, if anybody gave help to George Balabushka in 1969 or 1970, he would have to have some pretty remarkable skill. He would have probably been at least 30 to 35 years old. That would make him 75 years old today, maybe 80. Does anybody really claim that title, to have helped George Balabushka? I haven't heard it to this date.
I've heard all kinds of theory, but aside from buying blanks from Burton Spain and Gus Szamboti (John Davis as well?) I haven't seen anything credible that indicates he had help from anyone else. I've talked to cuemakers who visited him, and George wouldn't tell them anything, let alone accept help. Yet, these occasional stories come forth.
Not trying to draw ire, just trying for some fact as well as simple math for others.
