Something You Would Never Say Out Loud

The things I say out loud in the pool room far exceed being embarrassed by anything I think about playing the game

So here's my question: do you base any of your play on something so crazy, so out there -- but that works for you -- that you hesitate saying it out loud for fear of being laughed out of the pool hall.

I mean even like Tin Cup, Bull Durham stuff.

You don't have to reveal, just wondering.

I have to admit to being pretty confused about the terms "up table" and "down table". Am I the only one who doesn't know what they mean? I checked google and found conflicting information. Sometimes it means the rack end of the table and other times it seems to just mean the other end of the table from the player. Can someone please enlighten me?

where you rack is the FOOT of the table
where you break is the HEAD of the table
the foot is below the head
hope this helps

If you watch Spongebob Squarepants, I use almost an identical version of his Claw Machine routine, for winning prizes.

I say all kinds of disparaging things about my game when I screw something up. (trying to work on limiting that, it doesn't help)

The one silly thing I catch myself saying , both when I'm playing or even watching a teammates match, is when a ball is on its way to where it should go, but isn't gonna quite get there cuz it's too slow... "run, Forrest, run!"

Or if I scratch on my 8-ball break, I yell "go, eight!" ;) with a friend for an opponent, I'll say it the them, too

We try to keep it light at league. I realize that comedy is best left to the comedians.

A favorite saying between a longtime pool playing buddy of mine and I after either of us missed a relatively easy shot because we hit the cue ball to hard was " Slam it Soft " we now live in different parts of Mt but I still hear him tell me that subconsciously when I do just that and miss a easy shot !

yea it can be confusing for some. as the balls can be in the kitchen in some places and not at another.
the short rails are like the same length as the long rails yet are called short rails. the long rails are called side rails but are short.
the head spot and foot spots are not marked on many tables for whatever reason.
your cue has a tip and a butt but no head.

Don’t really consider this to be far out there, but instead of backhand english or a pivot point, I aim shots involving spin with my chin. Lots of right spin, i move the cue further right under my chin. My center of vision is the exact center of my nose, so this works for me.

And for some reason I have a hard time seeing/making the purple 4 ball, to the point that i will psych myself out on it.

You must be referring to this scene...

I actually use the words "Dollar Bills" from that movie for tempo practice........Dollar on the backstroke and Bills on the forward stroke. The "Dollar" is a two syllable word and the Bills one. It acts as a sort of stroke metronome and promotes a slower (two syllable) backstroke and a accelerating (one syllable) "Bills" forward stroke.......Of course any two syllable and one syllable word will work....I just happen to use "Dollar Bills" from the movie.

Of course I don't run around town telling people that.....LOL

you are indeed pivoting if you are not moving the whole cue parallel in that direction.

if you cant make the 4 ball then just play 8 ball and only take the strips. problem solved.
