Soooooo, I'm a slow player.........

you are "that guy". I will not practice with "that guy" and if i play "that guy" in a league, i will try and get the game over with as quickly as possible and i don't care if i win but i just want it over with lol its like a slow death playing "that guy" haha

I can't take it neither

Anxiety issues I guess I have

I'll play, but;

Don't get upset if I wander off while your shooting plus, you'll have to come get me as I might be somewhere else in the room at that time, but I'll try and stay in sight. If you can put up with this, then we're obviously working ''together''. Or better yet, we're trying to play together....slow play..;)

Fran,

I agree it's doubt, lack of trust, that feeds slow play. As to your 'on the clock' & improvement, do you mean, in time to shoot or level of proficiency that improves?

Best Regards,

Hey Rick,

No, actually I meant that when a match is put on the clock, it means that a timekeeper with a stopwatch gets assigned to the match and each player is allowed a certain number of seconds per shot. It's usually around 30 seconds.

Slow players usually have trust and control issues. You have to learn how to trust your subconscious mind. You don't need to consciously control every single thought. Right now, you only think that you do.

I've see it happen over and over again when a match gets put on the clock, the slow player immediately improves.[/QUOTE]

Fran,

The blue above is what I was asking you to clarify. Do you mean his shot time improves or his proficiency of play improves?

Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks in advance for the clarification.

Best Regards,

Could you put up with your opponent taking, on average, over a minute a shot?

Hey folks:

Just stumbled across the below video. You think you've seen slow players?

How would you like to see, in snooker, who the legendary timewaster is? This is Peter Ebdon -- who takes on average, a minute to 3 minutes to agonize over his own situations:

What's funny, is that he's matched up against one of snooker's fastest players, Ronnie O'Sullivan. Hare, meet Tortoise...

Glad your pace is picking up to your liking. I was going to suggest watching those Accu-Stats tapes on high speed for a while. :)

Since this thread started, I've been more conscious about the whole speed issue, and I've discovered that I seem to play a little better not letting myself take too much time. (The paralysis by analysis theory.)

I'm also more conscious of my opponents speed, as well, for better and for worse.

Something i'm wondering about, is that it seems to be more noticeable when I'm playing 9-ball as opposed to 8-ball. Both for me and when my opponent is shooting, but moreso my dealing with a slower opponent. It seems to annoy me more in a 9-ball match.

Does that make sense?

It's interesting, to me at least.

Just my opinion, but that is because in 9 ball the numbers on the balls dictate what to do next, so watching someone over think it can get annoying.

In 8 ball like straight pool and 1 pocket, there are far more player options to ponder. The balls don't necessarily carve in stone the out pattern. So it's natural to play slower with so many more options.

Bruce,

Obviously there are normally less options for the next shot in 9 vs 8. So, often there are times that the player does not know what he wants to do to get position & sometimes may not even know how to try. So, it can take longer.

I would politely sugggest to you that you do not let anything get you annoyed when playing. I have seen many a league player lose their match simply because they let something, usually unimportant, annoy them & then when they lose that is what they blame it on.

Just my respectful attempt to help.

Best Regards,
