Sound and feedback of a cue

One of the things my mentor/teacher taught me was to listen for that sweet sound "'cause if you don't hear it, you're gripping your cue too tight." This may vary from cue to cue, but I know that when I choke my cue, it won't sing.

IMO a cue only hits as well as the person shooting with it.

True, what I look for is different than what someone else is looking for. But regardless two people should be able to hear the same noise and feel the same hit coming from a cue. Just because I like a PING and they don't doesn't mean it exists in my head and not in theirs.

The sound I like is the ping from an older 314 like a ping pong ball hit with a rubber face paddle the sound of the ball hitting the bottom of the pocket an the third an most important is my opponent unfolding his bankrool to give me some green.

Auditorially (Is That A Word) Interesting

I distinctly recall two unique sounds that happened while I was playing pool that are vivid to this day, although they happened in the past.

1) Played for the first time with a McWhorter cue and the sound upon cueball contact was very, very distinct (and pleasant). It was a "ping" and I have yet to hear it again from any other cue. Furthermore that "ping" was different on a draw stroke, or punch shot or follow. I will trade one of my children for a McWhorter cue if anyone has an interest.

2) Was in Germany several years back and played on tables manufactured by a company called Lehmacher (sp?). I heard no sound, and I mean no sound, when the OB or cueball hit the rail, no sound whatsoever when the balls dropped into the pocket and no vibration of any kind. It was very unusual and not very pleasant.
