I did not know Bill Malone that well. He owned Gold Crown at one time, and Corner Pockets in Wilton Manors most recently. He died of pneumonia this past Monday night and I was sort of surprised to see no note of it here. If I missed a thread I apologize.

He ran a smoke free room, 3 billiard tables, 9 pool tables, and treated the patrons well. I have known him about 5 years I guess, and from what I have heard was a world class billiard player at one time. I know he has a lot of friends on the board and expect some of them will post more about him.

He'll be missed.

I posted this on Tuesday. Yes, Billy was a really nice person, ran a great room, and also played a terrific billiard game. I am surprised that there were no responses to my notice. Thanks for your post . Jim

RIP William Charles "Bill" Maloney - 08-25-2009, 12:15 PM

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Long-time 3-cushion billiards hall owner/operator William Charles "Bill" Maloney passed away yesterday after a lengthy struggle with emphysema. He was 70 years old.

The former owner of Gold Crown Billiards in Hollywood, Florida, Bill turned his Corner Pocket Billiards in Wilton Manors, Florida into an internationally known mecca for world class 3-cushion billiards. His tournaments over the years drew participation from every big name in the sport, from Sang Lee to Cuelemanns, Blumdahl, Carlos Hallan, and others.

Billy grew up in New York City and played in the famous Julians pool room on 14th Street.

Rest in peace Billy.

Jim

thanks

I know he was well known in the Billiard world and was surprised I saw no note. Guess I missed your post. Corner Pockets has been my weekend haunt for the last year or so anyway.

There are a few different threads.
Bill was a great guy. I visited his room in Fort Lauderdale when repping in Florida. I did not know he was the owner when I first went there. He was a pleasure to meet. I was honored that he placed an order:smile:
RIP Bill.:sorry:
